Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, has explained why Ruben Amorim is still the manager at Manchester United despite a poor run of results.

This was after the Red Devils suffered a 3-1 defeat in the hands of Brentford in Saturday’s Premier League clash between the two teams.

Igor Thiago’s put the Bees in front with two goals under 20 minutes before Benjamin Sesko reduced arrears for the Red Devils six minutes later.

Man United tried to but could not find the equaliser before Mathias Jensen netted the third in the 96th minute to secure all three points for Brentford.

Shearer noted that Manchester United’s decision to leave Amorim in the position was not because of the huge money the Portuguese would be paid if sacked but because the Red Devils owners would not want to ‘admit’ that the coach’s arrival from Sporting CP was mistake in the first place.

Shearer, who remains the Premier League all-time top scorer said on the Rest is Football podcast, “He [Amorim] was out-schooled by Keith Andrewsb[Brentford boss].

“When you look at Graham Potter at West Ham, 26 per cent win percentage, and been fired for that, Amorim’s got 27 per cent win rate despite the fortunes that have been spent.

“Currently, the last time I checked they’re 14th despite all the money being spent. I genuinely believe the owners or the people owning the club have made that many errors in the last 18 months, it would look terrible to admit another error and sack.”

Manchester United will return to action on Saturday against newly promoted Sunderland.
