Govs Must Take Responsibility, No Excuse For Insecurity – Gov Sule Tells Counterparts

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has urged his fellow governors to take full responsibility for security in their states, insisting that the unprecedented revenue allocations now available to them leave no room for excuses.

Naija News reports that Sule made the remarks on Monday at the 2025 Northern Nigeria Investment and Industrialisation Summit held in Abuja.

The governor noted that monthly allocations to the three tiers of government had quadrupled under the reforms of President Bola Tinubu, compared to what was available a few years ago.

“For the first time in our history, all tiers of government are sharing more revenue than they ever imagined,” he said.

“Over ₦2.2 trillion was shared this month alone. When I became governor in 2019, we were sharing between ₦590 billion and ₦620 billion. Today, it is four times that amount.”

It is worth noting that the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) had earlier announced that ₦2.22 trillion was shared among the three tiers of government in August 2025, out of a gross total of ₦3.63 trillion.

Sule challenged northern governors to channel the revenue windfall into economic transformation and security of their states.

“Every state now has the resources to secure its people. We should stop blaming anybody for our security. If we are blaming anybody, blame ourselves,” he declared.

Highlighting progress in Nasarawa State, Sule said his administration had compelled investors in solid minerals to build processing plants in the state.

This, he explained, had resulted in the commissioning of a 3,000-metric-tonne-per-day facility, while another 6,000-tonne plant is awaiting inauguration.

The governor also disclosed confirmed oil reserves of between five and seven million barrels, alongside an ambitious plan to expand rice cultivation from 3,300 hectares to 8,000 hectares before the end of his tenure.

Naija News reports that the summit, themed “Unlocking Strategic Opportunities in Mining, Agriculture and Power,” brought together stakeholders to discuss pathways for industrialisation and investment across northern Nigeria.
