  • The University of Benin (UNIBEN) will prevent over 5,000 students from taking second-semester exams starting September 29, 2025, due to unpaid school fees.
  • The institution enforces a strict “no payment, no examination” policy.
  • Registrar Ademola Bobola stated that multiple reminders to the affected students have been ignored.

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has declared that more than 5,000 students who have not settled their school charges will be prevented from taking the second-semester examinations beginning today, September 29, 2025.

In a statement signed by Registrar Ademola Bobola, the institution reaffirmed its strict “no payment, no examination” rule, noting that numerous reminders to the affected students had gone unheeded.

“The management has received a list of students who have failed to pay their fees despite repeated notifications and have also declined to enroll in the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme,” Bobola explained.

He added that all efforts to encourage fee payment or participation in the government loan program had produced no results.

The registrar stressed that defaulters will be barred from the forthcoming examinations. He further revealed that the Senate has instructed all provosts, deans, directors, and department heads to display the list of non-paying students by 8 a.m. on Monday to give them a final chance to verify their status and settle outstanding charges.

“Management expects total cooperation and adherence from every stakeholder to uphold the university’s standards,” Bobola stated.

To ensure enforcement, an implementation task force led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) has been constituted.
