NEED TO KNOW

  • Seven years after her wedding, a bride is still upset about the fact that her sister stained her perfect wedding dress
  • She said that her sister somehow left “a bright lipstick stain” on the lace, adding that it was “right across the neckline” and couldn’t be totally covered up
  • “The wedding looked perfect to the guests, but inside, I carried that sting all day,” she admitted

A bride is still haunted by one moment from her wedding seven years after she said “I do,” and it’s all because of her sister.

Taking to Reddit’s popular “Wedding Drama” channel, a woman reflected on how her perfect wedding dress was left stained just before she needed to put it on. In her post, she said that she thought her sister did it on purpose.

“The morning of my wedding, I was getting ready in the bridal suite with my mom, a couple of close friends, and my younger sister. My dress was everything I’d dreamed of, satin with lace at the neckline and a small train. I was so excited to finally wear it,” she recalled.

Disaster struck after she finished up her makeup in the bathroom and walked out to find “a bright lipstick stain on the lace” of her dress.

“Not small, not hidden, right across the neckline,” she reiterated.

After a scramble, the poster said that “a seamstress covered most of it with extra lace.”

“From the outside, no one could tell. But I knew. Every time I looked at my photos, I saw it,” she said. Years later, she reflected and added, “What hurts most is that I don’t think it was an accident. She never apologized properly. It felt intentional, like she couldn’t handle not being the center of attention that day.”

Ultimately, the Redditor said, “The wedding looked perfect to the guests, but inside, I carried that sting all day. And even now, years later, I still can’t forget it.”

While the former bride wasn’t seeking advice on the years-old incident, it sparked some conversation with fellow Redditors, with many users expressing that it was time for her to leave the incident in the past.

“Time to let it go , 7 years ? Either way it’s over and the only one it bothers is you . Move on,” one person said.

Another person cited her own family experience as an example of why not to bother holding grudges: “My 60-year-old sister carries decades-old grudges and resentments; it colour’s a lot of her life. She can’t figure out why friends and family spend minimal time with her. She’s a depressing pill to be around. Don’t carry grudges, they only harm you and you will never get the kind of reconciliation or retribution that you think will make everything better.”

“On the way to my wedding I got my veil caught in the car door and ripped it,” another bride shared. “And then I got a ticket for speeding. ‘Where you going in such a hurry?’ Well let me think, I’m in a wedding dress. I’m either a runaway bride or getting married. My point is that life happens, even on wedding days. I’m more concerned that you’re still letting this live in your head 7 years later. It’s time to let this go.”

One other Redditor raised a red flag about the issue with the bride’s focus, writing, “Okay … but how’s your marriage? That was the most important part of your wedding.”

The bride ultimately replied in the comments section, saying that she sees where people are coming from when they urge her to let it go.

“You’re right, it has been a long time. I think part of me knows I should let it go, but the hurt stuck because it felt intentional and came from someone so close. Maybe sharing it here is part of me trying to finally move on,” she wrote.
