The Lagos State Government has reopened the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge to traffic following the completion of repairs on 400 metres of its four expansion joints.
The bridge, inbound Alapere, had been partially closed since June 28 to allow construction works.

Although originally scheduled for 101 days, the project was completed in 78 days, ahead of the projected timeline.
DAILY POST reports that the repair was carried out in phases. The first four stages, covering the Ogudu–Ifako inbound Alapere section, were completed between June 28 and August 16. The subsequent phases, which focused on the inbound Oworoshoki axis, were concluded in September.

Special Adviser on Infrastructure to the Lagos Governor, Olufemi Daramola, and Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi, inspected the site before declaring the bridge open.

Daramola explained that the early delivery was made possible by the cooperation of residents, the support of security agencies, and the efficiency of contractors. He stressed that leaving defects on the expansion joints unattended could have endangered motorists and weakened the structure.

“We undertook this repair to guarantee safety. Thankfully, with the cooperation of the people, we have been able to deliver ahead of schedule,” he said, while thanking Lagosians for enduring traffic disruptions during the closure.

Daramola added that similar repair works are being planned for the Maza-Maza area.

Osiyemi, in his remarks, commended residents for their patience and emphasised that the facilities were taxpayer-funded and must be protected. He noted that the administration had recently carried out similar works on the Odo-Iyalaro and Apongbon bridges, with other projects ongoing across the state.

“Our focus remains the delivery of safe, durable, and sustainable infrastructure for a greater Lagos. We will need the same cooperation in future projects,” he said.
