Richardson had a mixed outing at the World Championships in Tokyo, losing her 100m world title to training partner Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who blazed to a new championship record of 10.61s and also completed the double by winning gold in the 200m, thus becoming the second woman in history after Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Moscow 2013) to achieve such a feat.

Despite finishing fifth in the 100m final, Richardson put the setback behind her and got her moment of glory by anchoring the American women’s relay squad to the 4x100m gold medal.

The 2025 season has been a rollercoaster for the renowned runner, who has faced numerous challenges, including injuries and domestic violence charges related to her boyfriend, Christian Coleman. Additionally, she lost her position as the world’s fastest female sprinter.

In spite of these obstacles, she managed to persevere and made a respectable outing at the biggest event in Tokyo.

It remains to be seen if Richardson will compete at the ATHLOS meet in New York on October 10 or has ended her season and is now focused on coming back better next year.
