The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed claims by US Congressman Riley Moore alleging systematic persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
President Bola Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, described the remarks as “uninformed” and “carelessly repeated,” insisting they misrepresent Nigeria’s reality.
“Nigeria is a proud, sovereign country built on faith and resilience,” Dada wrote on X. “Our churches, mosques, and traditional shrines coexist peacefully, not as rivals but as expressions of unity.”
Moore had called Nigeria “the deadliest country in the world for Christians” and urged the US Secretary of State to designate it a “Country of Particular Concern.” His post echoed similar claims by Senator Ted Cruz.
Responding, Dada said such views rely on outdated narratives: “It’s disappointing when foreign politicians speak confidently about a country they know little about. No faith is under siege in Nigeria. Our challenges are security-related, not religious.”
He urged international observers to “engage with verified data and official reports” before making judgments.
