Another fire outbreak has occurred in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, razing a residential building located at Amolegbe House, Omoleye Street, Molete.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started after an electrical cooker was left unattended, igniting nearby combustible materials and quickly spreading through the building.

Confirming the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman, Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Akinwande, said the agency received a distress call at about 9:50 am and immediately mobilised a response team to the scene.

“The report came in through a telephone call from Mr. Raji Azeez, alerting us to a fire at the stated address. Our firemen, led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Olayiwola, responded swiftly and arrived to find the private residential building engulfed in flames,” Akinwande said.

He noted that firefighters acted promptly to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings, adding that no lives were lost.

“Although the building was seriously damaged by the fire, we are grateful to report that no casualties were recorded,” he stated.

Following the operation, the fire team conducted an on-the-spot fire safety awareness exercise for residents, warning them against electrical negligence and the improper use of appliances.

Akinwande urged the public to handle electrical devices with care and ensure they are switched off when not in use.

“Every household should prioritise having functional fire extinguishers and be familiar with basic fire safety protocols. Early detection and swift action can save lives and property,” he advised.
