D’Tigress To Face Germany, France At World Cup Qualifiers

African champions Nigeria’s D’Tigress will face Colombia, Philippines, Germany, Korea, France In the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournament.

This was confirmed after the qualifying tournaments draw was held on Tuesday, October 7 at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland.

Taking place between March 11-17, the qualifying tournaments will be held in four host cities, namely – Wuhan, China; Lyon-Villeurbanne, France; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Istanbul, Türkey.

The draw confirmed the last leg of the journey for the teams still chasing a place at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 in Berlin, Germany where 16 nations will compete.

D’Tigress would be hoping to make a third appearance at the women’s basketball World Cup after featuring at the 2006 (group stage) and 2018 (quarter-finals) editions.

They became the first-ever women’s team to win five consecutive AfroBasket title which took their overall success to seven, only behind Senegal with 11 titles.

The results of the draw were as follows:

Wuhan, China

Mali, South Sudan, Brazil, Belgium, Czechia and China.

Lyon-Villeurbanne, France

Colombia, Philippines, Germany, Korea, France and Nigeria.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

New Zealand, Puerto Rico, USA, Senegal, Italy and Spain.

Istanbul, Türkey

Hungary, Türkiye, Argentina, Australia, Canada and Japan.
