Kwara State Fire Service, on Wednesday, recovered the lifeless body of a mentally derailed man floating on the Asa River on Emir’s Road, Ilorin.
A distress call was placed to the fire service by concerned residents who discovered the floating body at about 11 am.
The cause of the drowning could not be immediately ascertained, but the Head, Media and Publicity for Director, State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the recovered body has been handed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, for necessary action.
Meanwhile, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, sympathised with the families of the deceased.
He advised the public to exercise caution and avoid risky movements around riverbanks and other water bodies to prevent similar occurrences.
