Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has joined requires the fast launch of the detained chief of the Indigenous Folks of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu has been within the custody of the Division of State Companies (DSS) since his controversial rendition from Kenya in 2021 throughout the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This comes after Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Motion Congress (AAC), challenged Peter Obi, Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Atiku, and different South-East leaders to steer a march to the Presidential Villa to demand Kanu’s launch.

Sowore, in a put up on Instagram, urged regional leaders to cease making “empty noise” and take motion in direction of securing Kanu’s freedom.

Reacting on Thursday through his social media handles, Atiku urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to obey court docket orders and launch the IPOB chief.

He described Kanu’s continued detention regardless of court docket rulings as “an abuse of energy and an assault on justice.”

“The continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu stays an open sore on our nation’s conscience and a stain on our perception within the rule of legislation,” Atiku wrote.

“Defying court docket orders that granted him bail is an abuse of energy and an assault on justice. I, due to this fact, lend my voice in full help of the marketing campaign led by Yele Sowore for his fast launch or due prosecution.

“We fail as patriots if we permit Kanu’s case to fester as yet one more wound this nation refuses to heal.”
