Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, has given a reason why his team was thrashed by Argentina in the FIFA U-20 World Cup Round of 16 tie on Wednesday.
Zubairu watched as the South Americans humiliated Nigeria 4-0 in the last-16 stage.
Speaking after the game, Zubairu admitted that the Flying Eagles’ poor start and the early goals disrupted their tactical approach against Argentina.
“The early goal is part of what destabilizes us. We conceded a goal at a very early stage of the game. Even the second goal came not too far from the first goal,” Zubairu said at his post-match interview.
“I think that was what destabilized the whole of our approach, but all the same, I believe the boys did not display positive character.”
Nigeria had advanced to the last-16 stage as one of the best third-place teams.
