A fire broke out on Thursday morning at the Madrid residence of Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr, authorities have confirmed.
The incident happened in La Moraleja, an exclusive neighbourhood in Alcobendas, north of the Spanish capital.
Vinicius was not at home when the fire started. The 24-year-old Brazilian international is currently training with his country’s national team ahead of friendly matches against South Korea and Japan on October 10 and 14.
According to emergency services, the fire is believed to have originated in the sauna located in the basement of the house.
Investigators suspect an electrical malfunction caused the blaze, which completely destroyed the sauna and sent thick smoke spreading through the stairwell to two upper floors. Several rooms suffered heavy smoke damage before firefighters brought the situation under control.
Emergency teams received the first call at around 11 a.m. Two units from Madrid’s regional fire service responded immediately, joining local police officers who were already at the property attempting to contain the flames with fire extinguishers.
Firefighters said the quick response and teamwork between the emergency units helped prevent the blaze from spreading further. After the flames were extinguished, crews worked to ventilate the house and clear out the smoke. The operation concluded shortly after noon.
Authorities confirmed that no one was injured, and there were no reports of smoke inhalation. Damage assessment and an investigation into the exact cause of the electrical fault are ongoing.
Vinicius Jr, who joined Real Madrid in 2018 and has become one of the team’s most influential players, has not made any public comment about the incident. Officials say the forward’s home will undergo repairs once the inspection process is completed.
