Former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has challenged the Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to a debate to test political popularity.

Naija News reports that Kalu, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, declared that Peter Obi is not his leader.

The Senator stated that he is the most important politician in the Southeast and has achieved more politically than Peter Obi.

While citing his past electoral and administrative records, Kalu added that his political influence extended to the federal level during the administration of late former President, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

He said, “Peter is not my leader. I’m the most important politician from that zone. I have won two states before under the PPA. I have run for president before. My 4.9 million votes are still there since 2007.

“I achieved a lot with PPA. We had ministers, ambassadors, and several appointments under President Yar’Adua.

“Arrange in your studio a meeting between me and Peter Obi. Put two of us in the same place.”

Meanwhile, Peter Obi has warned that widespread certificate forgery among public officials risks normalising crime in Nigeria.

Obi, in a statement on Monday, called for immediate systemic reforms and the prosecution of any government official found guilty of falsifying academic records.

Naija News reports that the warning followed revelations that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, had disowned a Bachelor of Science degree presented by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche Nnaji. The institution said Nnaji never completed his studies and was never issued a certificate.

Court documents quoted in the investigative report further indicated that Nnaji himself admitted that UNN did not issue him a degree.

Obi said it was tragic that public officials expected to set examples for integrity had instead become the source of the nation’s moral collapse.
