Derrick Groves, the last escapee from the May 2025 jailbreak at the Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans, has been captured in Atlanta after a five-month search.
The 28-year-old, serving a life sentence for a 2024 double homicide at a Mardi Gras block party, was found hiding in a crawl space beneath a southwest Atlanta home.

Groves escaped on May 16, 2025, along with nine other inmates, exploiting a faulty cell door and a hole behind a toilet. Surveillance footage showed some of the escapees sprinting across a nearby interstate as they fled.
While he was on the run, a $50,000 reward was placed on him for anyone who can give them info about his hideout. His capture came after a tip to New Orleans Crimestoppers, which led authorities to the Atlanta home.
Currently held at Fulton County Jail, Groves faces extradition to Louisiana. In addition to his previous convictions, he and the other escapees now face extra charges for the jailbreak itself.
