Nnamdi Kanu: ‘You Are Nothing More Than An Anarchist’ – Presidency Blasts Sowore, Atiku

The presidency has slammed the African Action Congress (AAC) 2023 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, over the proposed protest at Aso Rock to demand the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Naija News reports that Kanu had been in the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS) since his extraordinary rendition from Kenya in 2021 under the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Recently, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, challenged the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Atiku and other South East leaders to join the march to Aso Rock, demanding the release of Kanu.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, Sowore urged South East leaders and politicians to stop empty noise and demand the release of Kanu.

Reacting in a post on his social media pages on Thursday, Atiku called on the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to release the IPOB leader immediately.

According to the former Vice President, defying court orders that granted him bail is an abuse of power and an assault on justice.

In response, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post via 𝕏, berated Atiku and Sowore over plans to cause breakdown of law and order through protest.

Onanuga also faulted Atiku for supporting the planned mob action, stressing that as a statesman, the former VP should know better that matters of justice are not resolved on the streets but in the law court.

He wrote, “You are nothing more than an anarchist masquerading as a rights activist. You very well know that Nnamdi Kanu is facing trial for treason, and you want to cause a breakdown of law and order by mobilising for a protest? Is this the kind of revolution you envisage for Nigeria, where the rule of law will be violated and your idea of justice would be the law of the jungle?

“I am surprised that ex-VP Atiku Abubakar, who is always opportunistic, has supported the planned mob action. As a statesman, he should know better that matters of justice are not resolved on the streets but in the law court.

“While the wheel of justice can sometimes be grindingly slow, partly caused by Kanu’s lawyers, Nnamdi Kanu will eventually get the justice he deserves for his alleged transgressions.”
