Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups fraudulently using his name and image to promote online businesses and ventures.

In a statement personally signed and released on Thursday, Obi said his attention had once again been drawn to the activities of people who continue to exploit his identity for personal and commercial gain despite several clarifications from his aides.

He described the continued misuse of his name as “fraudulent, deceptive, and aimed solely at exploiting public trust.”

“I wish to state categorically that I have no connection whatsoever with any of these endorsements or promotional activities,” Obi said. “At no time have I authorised any individual, business, or online platform to use my name, image, or identity for commercial purposes or profit-making ventures.”

Obi advised members of the public to be wary of online content or advertisements claiming his involvement in any business deal, stressing that such posts were false and misleading.

He further noted that all genuine information about him or his engagements would be disseminated only through officially verified channels.

The former Anambra State governor’s warning comes amid a growing trend of impersonation and online scams using the identities of public figures to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
