  • A viral photo on X has sparked outrage after it allegedly showed a Covenant University staff member receiving ₦102,000 as gratuity after 14 years of service.
  • The image, reportedly showing a recent cheque, drew heavy criticism toward the institution owned by Bishop David Oyedepo’s Living Faith Church.
  • Many Nigerians described the alleged payout as an insult to workers’ dedication, especially given the university’s high tuition fees, while others questioned the authenticity of the cheque, suggesting it might represent a monthly salary rather than a gratuity.

A photo circulating on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked outrage after allegedly showing a Covenant University staff member receiving just ₦102,000 as gratuity for 14 years of service.

The image, which displays a recently dated cheque, has triggered backlash against the institution owned by Bishop David Oyedepo’s Living Faith Church.

“When a university said to be founded and run by God himself pays you a gratuity of 102k after 14 years of service.
It’s either God is wicked or the university isn’t run by God.”

Netizens condemned the alleged payment, calling it a “mockery” of hard work and loyalty. Many pointed out that ₦102,000 — roughly ₦7,285 per year — was an unworthy sum from a university with some of the highest tuition fees in Nigeria.

However, some users questioned the authenticity of the cheque, suggesting it could represent a monthly salary rather than a gratuity.
