Onuachu’s header extends scoring streak as Trabzonspor edges Rizespor
Nigerian international Paul Onuachu continued his impressive form, finding the net for the fourth consecutive league match as Trabzonspor secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Rizespor on Saturday at the Çaykur Didi Stadyumu.
Trabzonspor, arriving with a three-game unbeaten streak, wasted no time in asserting its dominance.
Felipe Augusto fired the visitors ahead just two minutes after kickoff, setting an aggressive tone early in the match.
The lead was doubled in the 19th minute when Onuachu delivered a signature goal. The towering striker rose above the defence to connect with a cross, powering a header past the goalkeeper and giving his side a comfortable early cushion.
However, Rizespor fought their way back into the contest before the half-hour mark. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi capitalised on a defensive error, skillfully manoeuvring past goalkeeper Andre Onana to slot the ball home in the 27th minute, injecting new life into the match.
The second half saw the home side control possession and press for an equaliser. Despite creating numerous chances, Rizespor was let down by a combination of wayward finishing and a resolute Trabzonspor defence that held firm under pressure.
Trabzonspor continues unbeaten run
The win extends Trabzonspor’s unbeaten run to four games and lifts them to second place in the Super Lig standings with 20 points, trailing leaders Galatasaray by just two points.
In contrast, Rizespor’s fourth loss of the season leaves them in 12th position with eight points.
Onuachu’s goal was his seventh of the league campaign, solidifying his place as the Super Lig’s top scorer, two goals ahead of Mauro Icardi and Rafa Silva.
Next, Trabzonspor will aim to continue their winning ways against Eyüpspor on Saturday, while Rizespor will look to recover when they host Başakşehir on Wednesday.
