The Yobe State command of the Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into the discovery of a female corpse near the Federal University, Gashua.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the development to journalists on Saturday in Damaturu, the state capital.

He explained that the incident was reported on Friday by one Yusuf Baka, a resident of Sabon Daula Ward in Bade Local Government Area.

According to Abdulkarim, the deceased was identified as 45-year-old Falmata Abubakar of Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward, Gashua.

“She was found near the university fence, dressed in a black hijab,” he stated.

He added that operatives from the Gashua Division visited the scene and evacuated the body to the Specialist Hospital, Gashua, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Preliminary investigations, Abdulkarim revealed, suggested that the woman was transported in a vehicle and dumped about two kilometres away from her residence.

The corpse was later released to her family for burial after an autopsy was carried out in line with Islamic rites.

Police Assure Thorough Probe

Abdulkarim quoted the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, as assuring residents of a “thorough and professional investigation” to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death.

He added that the commissioner urged members of the public to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist the police.

“The command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property as well as maintaining peace across the state,” Abdulkarim said.

In a separate development, the Yobe Police Command recently disclosed a major breakthrough in its fight against phone theft and ATM card fraud.

On October 7, 2025, it was reported that operatives from the State Intelligence Department arrested a criminal syndicate notorious for using stolen mobile phones to access victims’ bank accounts and commit internet and ATM-related fraud.
