Wolverhampton Wanderers’ winless run in the Premier League extended to eight games following a 2-0 loss to newly promoted Sunderland.

The result leaves Wolves at the bottom of the table with just two points from a possible 24.

Nigeria international, Tolu Arokodare came off the bench and played 22 minutes.

Arokodare had a modest outing, completing two passes and winning two aerial duels. His best opportunity came in the 86th minute when he received the ball in the box but sent his effort wide.

He also contributed defensively with two clearances.

Sunderland took the lead in the 16th minute through Nordi Mukiele. Despite the early setback, Wolves showed some attacking intent, recording 16 shots and dominating possession.

However, their efforts were fruitless after Ladislav Krejci mistakenly put the ball into his own net in stoppage time, sealing the result for the hosts.

After the match, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira spoke to club media about the team’s struggles in front of goal:

“I see a team mentally connected with good spirits, with character, trying their best to change the situation. In football sometimes we have a moment one shot, one goal, two shots, two goals.

“We had two chances to score the second goal against Brighton, and we didn’t, and after that we conceded.

“Today was very important for us, but we need to improve the way that we are attacking the box, the way that we are crossing, the way that we are assisting in the box. And when we assist well, we need to score.”

Wolves will need to quickly find solutions to their attacking inefficiency if they hope to turn their season around.

Arokodare and Wolves next three league matches are against Burnley, Fulham and Chelsea, and getting maximum points in this matches may play a pivotal role in the Premier League survival.
