Messi Hat-Trick win Golden Boot to help Inter Miami secure play off ticket
Lionel Messi delivered a spectacular hat-trick on Saturday, clinching the Major League Soccer Golden Boot and leading Inter Miami to a commanding 5-2 victory over Nashville SC as they secured their spot in the playoffs.
The Argentine icon concluded the regular season with an impressive 29 goals in 28 appearances. His closest competitors, Denis Bouanga of Los Angeles FC and Nashville’s own Sam Surridge, finished tied for second with 24 goals each.
With this masterful performance, Messi not only claimed his first MLS Golden Boot but also strengthened his case for a second consecutive Most Valuable Player award.

The victory helped Inter Miami’s third-place finish in the Eastern Conference, setting up a first-round playoff rematch against the same Nashville side, scheduled to begin on October 24.

After Nashville missed several early opportunities, Messi broke the deadlock in the 34th minute. Receiving a pass from Jordi Alba, he made a quick cut before launching a powerful left-footed strike from outside the box that found the bottom corner of the net.

However, Nashville responded just nine minutes later when Sam Surridge headed in a precise cross from Hany Mukhtar to score his 24th goal of the season. The home team then took a 2-1 lead late in first-half stoppage time, as Jacob Shaffelburg capitalised on a rebound after a Mukhtar shot struck the post.
Inter Miami levelled the score in the 63rd minute when Messi converted his first penalty of the season. The spot-kick was awarded after a deflected ball from Luis Suarez struck Mukhtar’s arm.

Messi calmly stepped up and sent the ball past Nashville goalkeeper Joe Willis.
Baltasar Rodriguez put Miami ahead 3-2 in the 67th minute before Messi completed his hat-trick in the 81st, curling a shot through a crowded box and past a helpless Willis. Telasco Segovia added a fifth goal for Miami in stoppage time to seal the emphatic win.
Western Conference Playoff Picture Finalised
The final day of the regular season also brought high drama in the Western Conference. Expansion team San Diego FC clinched the top seed, edging out Thomas Mueller’s Vancouver Whitecaps.
San Diego’s 4-0 win over the Portland Timbers, combined with Vancouver’s 2-1 loss to FC Dallas, left both teams on 63 points, with San Diego taking the top spot on a tiebreaker.
Amahl Pellegrino and Anders Dreyer each scored twice for San Diego, capping off the most successful regular season for a debut franchise in MLS history.

FC Dallas secured one of the final playoff berths with their victory in Vancouver, thanks to goals from Osaze Urhoghide and Kaick. Mueller scored from the penalty spot for the Whitecaps, who were forced to play most of the match with ten men after Mathias Laborda received a red card in the 11th minute. Dallas and Vancouver will now face each other in the first round of the playoffs.
Real Salt Lake also booked its postseason ticket with a 2-2 draw against St. Louis, a result that proved sufficient after the Colorado Rapids drew 2-2 with Los Angeles FC.
