Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf nets fastest Revs goal of 2025 season on Decision Day, earning high praise from club on social media.

The New England Revolution concluded their 2025 MLS regular season with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Chicago Fire FC on MLS Decision Day at Gillette Stadium, a match instantly ignited by Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf.

Returning from international duty, the Super Eagles star made a sensational impact, scoring a magnificent chip goal just 44 seconds into the contest, the fastest goal the Revolution have scored all season.

The club’s effusive praise for the midfielder, hailing him on social media as “The Senior Man,” underscored his vital contribution.

The Yusuf show

The Nigerian international, who did not feature in Nigeria’s recent World Cup qualifiers, wasted no time, capitalising on a Chicago defensive error just moments after the opening whistle.

Yusuf pressed high, intercepted a loose touch, and, with exquisite precision, deftly chipped the ball over Chicago Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady to net his second goal of the season.

This spectacular strike ended a 22-match goal drought for the box-to-box midfielder, setting the stage for a captivating finale.

Yusuf’s early goal, the Revolution’s quickest since April 2024, highlighted his commitment, as he was one of only two Revolution players, alongside MVP and Golden Boot winner Carles Gil, to appear in all 34 regular-season games.

The final minutes of the match mirrored the early drama, with New England briefly reclaiming the lead in the 96th minute through Dor Turgeman, only for Chicago to equalise with an own goal in the 99th minute, securing the draw.

The recognition of Yusuf as “The Senior Man” speaks to his growing influence and leadership within the squad, a tribute to his consistent work rate and technical ability in central midfield.

While the Revolution failed to reach the playoffs, Yusuf’s standout individual moments, and his tireless effort, provide a positive foundation for the club’s 2026 campaign.
