Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta praised Gyokeres after the Sweden international ended a seven-game goal drought for Arsenal with a brace against Atletico Madrid.
The former Sporting CP man scored twice at the Emirates to help the Gunners beat Diego Simeone’s side 4-0 and continue an excellent start to the season.
What Arteta said about the performance
The first half was a cagey affair, although Arsenal dominated possession. Arteta credited the opening goal from Gabriel for opening up their opposition.
“It was a tough match. After the goal, they opened up a bit, and it was a little easier for us to find the spaces. Very happy with the result,” he said, per the BBC.
“At this level in the Champions League, you really need to step up, and we certainly did that in every phase of the play. Very happy.”

Arsenal has been defensive of Gyokeres through his goal drought, insisting that he offered more than goals. While the Spanish tactician expressed his excitement over Gyokeres’s scoring luck, he made sure to highlight his other qualities.
“Delighted, as he fully deserved it. The work rate he brings to the team is outstanding,” Arteta said.
“We value a lot of things that he does for the team, and it was the biggest smile on his face today and look at his team-mates. Hopefully, this is the start of some beautiful sequences.”
