Popular social media commentator Reno Omokri, has ridiculed the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent comments on the removal of Mathematics as a compulsory subject for Art students seeking admission into Nigerian universities.
Omokri Mocks Obi’s Academic Record
Reno Omokri criticized Peter Obi, claiming he lacked the moral grounds to insist that art students must pass Mathematics before gaining university admission.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Omokri wrote:

“See someone who did not get a credit in Mathematics insisting that Nigerian art students must pass Mathematics during WAEC before they can gain admission into a university. That means Peter Obi should return his certificate to UNN. By his own admission, he did not merit his admission.”
Reno contrasted Obi’s stance with that of President Bola Tinubu, saying Tinubu was helping students through loan programs while Obi was allegedly “placing roadblocks” in their path.
“President Tinubu is giving you student loans to facilitate your university dreams, while Obi is placing roadblocks in your way. If you are an art student, vote for Peter Obi at your own risk!” he added.
Peter Obi Faults FG Over Policy Change
Peter Obi had earlier criticized the Federal Government’s reported plan to remove Mathematics as a compulsory subject for university admission.
In a detailed post titled “Back and Forth Policy on Mathematics: A Costly Mistake,” Obi described the decision as “a regrettable step backwards” for the education system.
He noted that although the Federal Ministry of Education clarified that Mathematics would remain compulsory at the secondary school level, excluding it from tertiary admission requirements could “change nothing fundamentally.”
