Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has expressed worry over disconnection of its Secretariat from national grid.
NUJ, in a petition addressed to the Managing Director of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Francis Agoha called attention to the situation.
DAILY POST gathered that the NUJ Secretariat was disconnected from national grid on Friday. Electricity supply has not been restored to the Secretariat as of the time of this report on Wednesday.
NUJ in the petition signed by Chairman, Ademola Babalola and Secretary, Sola Oladapo described the disconnection of NUJ Secretariat by some IBEDC staff as unjust and illegal.

The duo in the petition made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday, noted that the disconnection of the NUJ Secretariat from national grid was done without any formal notice.
They demanded a formal written apology from the management of IBEDC to the union and its members for what they described as an embarrassment.
They also advised the electricity distribution company to set up an investigation panel to unravel the incidents that led to the disconnection.
The NUJ also asked the electricity distribution company to take appropriate disciplinary measures against those found culpable.
The union noted that it will take appropriate action through legal means if the company refuses to address the matter within seven days.
“The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Oyo State Council, writes to express its deepest displeasure and strong condemnation of the unjustifiable and reckless action of your officials who, on Friday, October 17, 2025, stormed our State Secretariat at Iyaganku, Ibadan, and disconnected the electricity supply to the entire premises without any prior notice, provocation, or legitimate reason.
“A formal written apology from the management of IBEDC to the Union and its members for the embarrassment and reputational damage caused by the incident. A thorough internal investigation into the actions of the officials responsible for the disconnection, with appropriate disciplinary measures taken against those found culpable.
“A public assurance that such a regrettable incident will never occur again, especially against an institution as critical to public communication and democratic accountability as the NUJ. Restitution for the losses incurred, including the disruption of official activities and the adverse impact on our Press Week programme.
“Failure to address this matter promptly and satisfactorily will leave the Union with no choice but to seek appropriate redress through every available institutional, legal, and public channel. We therefore expect a prompt response and resolution within seven (7) days of the receipt of this letter”.
