Hugo Ekitike discussed starting alongside Alexander Isak and the result against Frankfurt.
Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike had a message for Alexander Isak after the Champions League triumph against Frankfurt, stating that he and the Sweden international had to work together to help the Reds achieve their ambitions.
The Merseysiders signed Ekitike for £82 million from Frankfurt in the summer. Later in the transfer window, they acquired another striker, Isak, for £120 million. While Ekitike has hit the ground running, Isak has struggled.
What Ekitike said
The win against Frankfurt brought an end to a run of four losses for Arne Slot’s side. Ekitike expressed his excitement to get the win, especially against his former club.
“It was a great feeling [to come back to Frankfurt],” he said, per the BBC. “It was something special to come back home.
“To win and score my first Champions League goal here was important. I just keep it calm and cool. I knew he would come and open his legs so I put it between the legs and that worked.”

Out of form Mohamed Salah was relegated to the bench for the game, with Slot starting his two strikers for the first time. Ekitike saw it as an opportunity for them to work on their chemistry, and help Liverpool achieve their ambitions.
“I think it was good. We can improve together and he is a very good player, we need to work together and find a good association.”
