A Nigerian citizen, Margaret Obi, has been appointed as a High Court Judge in England and Wales.
Naija News reports that former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, confirmed the development in a congratulatory message via his verified 𝕏 handle on Friday, describing the feat as “a well-deserved recognition of excellence and integrity.”
The politician said Obi’s elevation to the Bench marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first African-born High Court Judge in England and Wales.
While commending her professional journey, Obi noted that Mrs Obi’s career path, from solicitor to the High Court Bench, reflects the resilience and capacity of Nigerians to excel globally when given the opportunity.

“Her remarkable journey from solicitor to the Bench, with over 27 years of legal practice and seven years of judicial service, stands as a testament to hard work, integrity, and professional excellence,” Obi stated.
He added that her story is “another reminder that Nigerians continue to distinguish themselves across borders when provided the right environment to thrive.”
The former governor also took time to clear the air on what he described as a recurring case of mistaken identity, as many had assumed Mrs Margaret Obi was his wife due to the similarity in names.
“Due to the similarity in name, Mrs Obi is often mistaken for my wife, but for clarity, she is not. It’s also necessary to note that my wife, from inception, officially identifies herself as Mrs Margaret Peter-Obi,” he clarified.
Obi used the opportunity to reflect on the need for Nigeria to create an environment that nurtures and rewards merit, stressing that the country’s citizens excel wherever systems of fairness and opportunity exist.
“Her achievement once again highlights the outstanding potential of Nigerians who continue to excel globally when given the right environment to thrive.
