Police Launch Investigation into Alleged Cu!t Initiation of M!nor in Anambra

  • The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing young boys allegedly initiating a minor into a cult.
  • Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga described the act as criminal and offensive, adding that Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu has directed specialized units to verify the video, ensure the victim’s safety, and arrest all involved.
  • The command condemned all forms of child abuse and urged the public to report useful information while assuring informant confidentiality.

The Anambra State Police Command has reacted to a viral video showing a group of young boys allegedly carrying out a cult initiation ceremony involving a minor.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said a preliminary review of the footage suggests the incident may have occurred within a community in the state, describing the act as “criminal but also deeply offensive to public morals, safety, and the protection of minors who remain one of the most vulnerable groups in the society.”

Ikenga added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered an immediate investigation, directing specialized operatives from the Anti-Cultism Squad, Juvenile Welfare Unit, and State Intelligence Department to work together to:

“Verify the authenticity and origin of the video,”

“Identify the victim and ensure his safety and wellbeing,”

“Identify and apprehend all individuals involved or complicit in the act.”

The CP condemned all forms of child abuse, indoctrination, harassment, psychological grooming, or forced initiation, warning that “such acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances in the State.”

He also urged anyone with credible information to report through emergency numbers 112, 07039194332, or directly to the PRO on 08039334002, assuring that “the identity of informants would be protected and all reports would be treated with utmost confidentiality.”
