Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has shared the behind-the-scenes story of how his chart-topping collaboration with Davido and Seun Kuti came to life.

Speaking in an interview that surfaced online on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the Declan Rice crooner revealed that Davido’s persistence and urgency were the driving forces behind the record’s creation.

According to Odumodublvck, the collaboration began when Davido, who fondly referred to him as “D-Rice,” a nickname inspired by his hit single, started reaching out to him from abroad. “Davido called me when he was in London, saying, ‘We go record today oh,’” he recounted. “He called me again when he was in Ghana. I told him I was in Lagos, and he said, ‘Oh yeah, come today, come today!’ And that’s how we did Grooving, an amazing record.”

Despite Davido’s hectic travel schedule, the two artists eventually linked up to record the energetic single, which appears on Odumodublvck’s 2025 album Industry Machine.

The rapper also opened up about the significance of featuring Seun Kuti, the son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, on the same track. “I sent it to Seun Kuti, son of Fela, Anikulapo. That’s African legacy running in his blood,” Odumodublvck said. “It’s amazing because I used to listen to Fela growing up, and now having his son on my project feels legendary.”

With Grooving, Odumodublvck successfully bridges generations, melding his bold rap energy with Davido’s Afrobeats flair and Seun Kuti’s authentic Afrobeat roots, creating a record that captures both legacy and modern rhythm in one powerful moment.

“Davido called me when he was in London and he was ‘we go record today oh’. He called me again when he was in Ghana. That’s how we made ‘Grooving'”
