The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has engaged in discussions about Abuja’s smart city initiative at the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The initiative aims to leverage technology and innovation to drive urban development and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors.
In a statement issued by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olanyika, on Tuesday, said the minister
centred his discussion on key areas of Urban mobility, expansion of transportation networks, intelligent traffic systems, and public transport solutions.
He hinted on sustainability, smart waste management, renewable energy adoption, and waste-to-wealth initiatives, Public Safety: deployment of smart solar streetlights, CCTV surveillance, and rapid emergency response systems.
The minister also listed digital governance; creation of platforms for citizen engagement, transparency, and efficiency in service delivery, and economic empowerment: job creation, attracting tech companies, and expanding Abuja’s digital environment
He emphasized the importance of data in shaping opportunities for Abuja’s youth and highlighted the upcoming National Employment Database, which will match skills with job opportunities and support entrepreneurship programs.
The statement reaffirmed that Abuja’s transformation into a smart and sustainable city is about building a safer, more inclusive, and prosperous environment for all.
