Akingboye’s Family Seeks Clarification On Autopsy Report
SHARE

The family of the late Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in the 2023 Ondo State election, Bamidele Akingboye, has urged the Lagos State Police Command to clarify conflicting media reports about the autopsy conducted into his death.

The family said the police informed them during a meeting on Friday, October 24, 2025, that both the autopsy results and the investigation findings remain in police custody pending the conclusion of inquiries.

However, a newspaper report on Saturday, October 25, quoted the deceased’s second wife, Mrs Christianah Akingboye, as claiming she had access to the autopsy report, a development the family described as worrisome.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Pastor Akinyele Akingboye called on the police to verify the situation and caution individuals making unverified claims.

“We want the Commissioner of Police to confirm whether the report is still in police custody and whether any third party has lawful access to it. Anything short of that undermines the investigation,” he said.

The deceased’s eldest son, Samuel Akingboye, also reaffirmed the family’s trust in the ongoing inquiry. “As the police told us, the autopsy result is currently with them while they conclude their inquiries. We have been assured the investigation will be concluded soon, and we await the outcome,” he noted.

Mr Oyeniyi Iwakun, Personal Assistant and Media Adviser to the late politician, said he has been closely monitoring developments but would make public comments only after the police release their official findings.

He recalled that he was in Okitipupa, Ondo State, when he first received news of Akingboye’s passing, and later confirmed that the death occurred at the politician’s Victoria Garden City residence in Lagos.

The family urged the Lagos State Police Command to conclude its investigation without delay and release the findings in order to douse public speculation.
