The Commissioners of Police for Benue and Enugu states, CP Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent and CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, respectively, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening joint security efforts aimed at curbing the growing wave of cross-border criminal activities between the two states.

This resolution emerged during a high-level operational meeting held in Benue State on Tuesday, October 29, 2025.

The session gathered senior officers from both police commands to assess existing security challenges and develop stronger collaborative strategies.

In a joint statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officers, SP Daniel Ndukwe and DSP Edet Udeme, both commissioners identified the infiltration of criminal groups and their cooperation with certain unpatriotic individuals in border communities as major causes of interstate crimes.

To tackle these threats, the two Commands agreed to deepen intelligence sharing, organize coordinated operations, and jointly mobilize resources to address violent and organized crimes, especially within border regions.

The renewed partnership will specifically cover Ado, Ogbadibo, and Okpokwu Local Government Areas in Benue State, as well as Igbo-Eze North, Isi-Uzo, and Udenu LGAs in Enugu State.

According to the statement, such meetings will now be held regularly to sustain progress and maintain effective collaboration between both Commands.

It further highlighted recent joint efforts that resulted in the arrest of suspected cross-border criminals, the rescue of kidnapped victims, and the recovery of stolen items including vehicles, laptops, and mobile phones.

The commissioners assured that the police remain fully dedicated to preserving peace and safety within border communities and called on residents to provide prompt and reliable intelligence to assist ongoing security operations.
