Fulham advanced to the quarter-finals of the League Cup after a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout win against Wycombe Wanderers, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Wycombe took an early lead in the fourth minute through Cauley Woodrow, but Joshua King equalized for Fulham shortly after the restart in the 48th minute to send the game to penalties.

Fulham held their nerve from the spot to secure their place in the last eight of the competition.

Nigeria international, Calvin Bassey played the full 90 minutes, operating in an uncharacteristic left-back role.

He delivered a strong all-round performance, completing 88 passes with ten into the final third and providing two accurate long balls into the box.

Defensively, Bassey stood out with six tackles, two clearances, and ten ball recoveries.

He also won all of his ground duels and three aerial challenges, contributing significantly to Fulham’s defensive stability throughout the match.

Alex Iwobi was introduced in the 65th minute and made an immediate impact.

In his 25-minute cameo, the midfielder completed 26 passes, created four chances, and delivered one accurate cross.

He also registered two ball recoveries and calmly converted his penalty during the shootout.

The victory offers both Iwobi and Bassey a strong opportunity to chase silverware with Fulham this season.

Progressing to the quarterfinals not only strengthens the club’s ambitions in the domestic cup but also highlights the growing influence of the Nigerian duo in Marco Silva’s squad.

Fulham will now turn their attention to the upcoming draw as they continue their push for a first major domestic trophy in over two decades.

Winning the FA Cup will see both players further cement their names in the club’s history.
