Brentford delivered a dominant performance, cruising past Grimsby Town with a 5–0 victory to secure their place in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Goals from Mathias Jensen, Keane Lewis-Potter, Reiss Nelson, Fabio Carvalho, and Nathan Collins sealed an emphatic win for the Bees.

Among the standout performers was Frank Onyeka, who produced a masterclass in midfield.

The Nigeria international completed 32 passes, created one chance, and made three passes into the final third.

He was flawless in both dribbling and crossing, maintaining a 100% success rate. Onyeka also topped the defensive charts with three tackles, seven ball recoveries, five ground duels, and one aerial duel won all in just 68 minutes of action.

This match marked Onyeka’s third start of the season, all coming in the Carabao Cup, as he continues to push for his first Premier League start under new head coach Keith Andrews.

Following the victory, Andrews praised his squad’s depth and professionalism:

“If you go back to the previous two rounds, we had players in those games who have fought their way into the league matches. Where we’re at now, I think we’ve got a really competitive squad,” said Andrews.

“We’ve got outstanding strength in depth and there’s a real fight for places. The players are aware of that they push each other every single day.

“I have genuine respect for this level, for what clubs like Grimsby do to survive and compete. I was really looking forward to this game because I knew it would be a proper contest, one where we had to be professional.”

Brentford will now look to build on this momentum as they prepare for the quarter-finals, aiming to replicate their memorable 2020–21 campaign, when they reached the semi-finals for the first time in club history.
