NEED TO KNOW

  • In October 2025, Jonathan Van Ness told his TikTok followers that he had lost 70 pounds over the past year
  • He started a GLP-1 medication in 2024 to address a medical issue and help him control an eating disorder
  • The reality TV star said his body has “never looked like this” after getting into Pilates

Jonathan Van Ness has “always” been cute. But after losing 70 pounds in 2025, the Queer Eye star said he feels “good” too.

“I was always really cute, and I always felt cute,” the celebrity hairstylist said in an October 2025 TikTok addressing his weight loss. “But I just didn’t feel good, and now I feel good.”

The reality star has been candid about his health, including how being on a GLP-1 medication — a class of drugs approved for Type 2 diabetes that can also aid in weight management — has helped him lose weight over the past year. He also credits regularly attending Pilates classes at fitness franchise Solidcore with giving him abs.

“I feel like a f—— minx right now,” Van Ness said, noting that he wants to look back at pictures of himself in his 30s “looking cute” when he’s in his 80s. “So that’s why the top’s off, because I feel really cute.”

Here’s everything to know about Jonathan Van Ness’ weight loss and what he’s said about his health.

He struggled with an eating disorder

In January 2025, Van Ness shared that he had begun his weight loss journey by taking GLP-1s to help control a binge-eating disorder. He told his TikTok followers that it had gotten “out of control” and that he was making decisions he “regretted with compulsive eating.”

“I, for the first time in my life, had control over my food intake,” the hairstylist said. “It has just helped me so massively, and that’s part of why I wanna be honest with you about it because I know how important asking for help is, and how much asking for help can change your life in terms of healing.”

Van Ness first opened up about the disorder in an October 2022 Instagram post, telling his followers that he had been struggling “for a long time.”

“This isn’t instantaneous. Healing and recovery is something that I think we’re always in relationship with,” he told PEOPLE in December 2022. “Whatever your burden is, shame thrives in secrecy, so when we can be more open about it and ask for help — whether it’s with your therapist or a trusted friend or a support group, whatever it is — I think that’s when we can really get into our healing.”

He added, “We can bring that shame out into the open, and then it doesn’t have to be scared anymore.”

The hairstylist first started taking a GLP-1 —  short for glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, which impact satiety in the brain — medication in September 2024, which he revealed several months later. Popular GLP-1 brands include Ozempic and Mounjaro.

In his January 2025 TikTok, Van Ness elaborated that he started taking the medication after gaining and losing a lot of weight “publicly.”

“This time in my life, I knew that I needed a little bit of extra help,” he said.

He further elaborated in his October 2025 TikTok that the decision came after he dealt with a “medical issue” in 2023. He said that if a colonoscopy didn’t uncover something “severely wrong” with him, he would try a GLP-1 medication.

“I just didn’t feel good,” the reality star said.

Van Ness told his TikTok followers in October 2025 that he had lost 70 pounds over the past year. He first shared before-and-after photos of his weight loss journey in February 2025, noting that he made many changes in addition to the “huge help” of GLP-1s.

“I have also made major other changes,” Van Ness said in a post on his Instagram Stories. “First was my diet obvs, second was way less alcohol, and finally group pilates which has been most pivotal. My mental health and overall feeling is a different universe since last year and the biggest change was group fitness.”

He concluded the post writing that he was “so proud” of himself and encouraged his followers to “take what works for you & leave the rest.”

The reality star has long been a fan of working out, and told his TikTok followers that taking classes at Solidcore transformed his body.

“My body’s never in my whole life — I’ve always wanted to have an ab,” he said. “I’ve never had abs. And I feel really good, so I’m taking my shirt off a lot.”

Van Ness is also a big fan of gymnastics and often shares his flips and tricks on Instagram. The comedian told Kyle Meredith With… in February 2022 that he included a gymnastics routine in his tour because performing the sport in front of an audience was his “sixth-grader fantasy.”

“I wanted to do gymnastics in sixth grade but I couldn’t and now I can so I do it in front of an auditorium of people,” he said.

Van Ness is “all about body neutrality”

In his October 2025 TikTok video, Van Ness unpacked the “gigantic conversation” about how he’s promoted body positivity in the past and addressed those who said his weight loss had changed his views.

“What do you mean? I’m all about body neutrality,” he said. “The way that you look does not define your worth, doesn’t define your lovableness. You are worth love and worth celebration, no matter what your body looks like.”
