Police crack down on theft, vandalism syndicate, arrest 7 suspects in Yobe

Yobe State Police Command said its detectives have arrested seven suspects who specialise in burglary and vandalism.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, which indicated that the arrest was made through intelligence-led policing.

“Following the recent increase in the theft of hand trucks, household items and other valuables within Nayinawa, Pawari, and Pompomari wards of Damaturu, operatives of ‘A’ Division Police Station, in collaboration with the Vigilante Group, successfully smashed a criminal burglary and vandalism syndicate”, he said.

According to the PPRO, the suspects are: Abubakar Ibrahim, 18 years, Alhajeri; Aliyu Mohammed Haruna, 20 years, Alhajeri, Ibrahim Haruna, 21 years, Forestry/Ajari and Abdul Ibrahim, 18 years, Forestry/Ajari.

Others are: Nafiu Ali, 18 years, Hausari; Always Arma Ya’u, 24 years, Hausari as well as Abubakar Mohammed, 19 years, Forestry/Ajari area.

He added that a number of the stolen items were recovered by detectives and have been marked as exhibits.

“Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are intensified to recover all remaining stolen property and apprehend any fleeing accomplices”, he said.

SP Abdulkarim also said that during a recent conference with senior officers, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, charged officers and men of the Command to remain vigilant, embrace intelligence-led policing, and continue leveraging modern techniques to stay ahead of criminal elements.

He also urged residents to sustain their unwavering cooperation with the police by promptly reporting suspicious persons or activities.
