Rooney and Ronaldo were teammates at Manchester United from 2004 till the Portugal international left for Real Madrid in 2009. They achieved much together, including the Champions League and a Premier League three-peat. Still, Rooney has always had Messi over Ronaldo.

Piers Morgan asked Ronaldo during the Al Nassr man’s explosive interview from over two years ago about Rooney, in which the five-time Ballon d’Or winner suggested his former teammate was jealous.
Also, given Ronaldo’s god-like status amongst Manchester United fans, Rooney’s comments about Messi spark backlash each time he repeats them.
The former Everton man reacted to those comments, maintaining that he did not bear any ill feelings towards Ronaldo, but he maintained his pro-Messi stance.
Ronaldo is back on Piers Morgan Uncensored for what is dubbed his “most personal interview.” In one of the promotional snippets ahead of the full interview, the British broadcaster brought forward Rooney’s rebuttal.
Ronaldo shrugged at Rooney’s “I don’t hate Ronaldo” comment. In addressing the part about Messi being superior to him, he said, “No problem… I don’t agree. I don’t want to be humble.”
The GOAT debate between Messi and Ronaldo is not one expected to end anytime soon. The 2026 World Cup could go a long way in contributing to the arguments, as Ronaldo stands the chance to wipe out one of Messi’s advantages by winning the title as well.
