The Deeper Christian Life Ministry has strongly condemned what it described as a “malicious and entirely false” news report circulated by an online platform identified as Ibomfocus, claiming that its General Superintendent, Pastor William F. Kumuyi, made comments about the United States and Christian persecution in Nigeria.
The report, which carried the headline “America is Trying to Steal Our Natural Resources; There is No Christian Genocide in Nigeria, says Pastor Kumuyi,” was debunked by the Church in a statement released on Sunday through its official handle, @dclmhq.
According to the statement, the story was a total fabrication and a product of “the imagination of its authors.” The ministry clarified that Pastor Kumuyi did not address any press conference in Lagos or make any statement of such nature, as claimed by the fake report.
Pastor Kumuyi did not at any time address a press conference or make the aforementioned statement in Lagos. He has been away from Nigeria for a considerable length of time, holding programmes in the Oceania region and the Far East,” the statement said.
The Church further noted that Pastor Kumuyi is renowned for his dedication to preaching the gospel and does not engage in political discussions.
Besides, Pastor Kumuyi is well known for focusing entirely on preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He does not dabble into politics, as the false story mentioned above seemed to suggest,” it added.
The Ministry warned those attempting to use the preacher’s name for political or malicious purposes to desist immediately, stressing that any future attempts to fabricate stories about him “may attract appropriate action.”
The statement concluded with an appeal to the public and media platforms to verify information before publication and to disregard the false report entirely.
