Everything You Should Know About the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Release
SHARE

There are only a handful of gaming moments that stop the internet in its tracks, and a new Call of Duty: Black Ops release is one of them. Grand Theft Auto VI in 2026 might be another, but that’s a story for later. For now, all eyes are on Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, officially dropping November 14, 2025 across consoles and PC. And yes, Game Pass subscribers, you’re getting it day one.

After weeks of rumours about a surprise early release, Treyarch has doubled down on the date. In a social post, the studio confirmed: “We’re less than a month away from #BlackOps7’s launch on Nov. 14.” That statement alone ended speculation that Black Ops 7 might go head-to-head with Battlefield 6 in early November.

Pre-orders are already live across major platforms. Activision is sticking to two editions—Standard and Vault. The Standard Edition ($69.99) comes with the full game, the Reznov Challenge Pack, Guild Override Weapon Camo, one season of BlackCell, Operator and Mastercraft weapon collections, the Ultra GobbleGum Pack for Zombies, and a Permanent Unlock Token. The Vault Edition ($99.99) adds exclusive Zombies Mastercrafts and early access to BlackCell rewards. Game Pass players can dive in at launch, but Vault perks will cost extra.

The launch signals a major shift in how Battlefield competes; free-to-play, faster, and open to everyone.

Set in 2035, Black Ops 7 follows David “Section” Mason as he leads a Joint Special Operations Command team to confront the return of Raul Menendez and his mysterious ties to tech giant The Guild. For the first time in Black Ops history, the campaign supports co-op play, letting you take on missions solo or with friends. Expect globe-trotting missions through neon-lit Tokyo, the Mediterranean coast, and icy Alaskan outposts. Treyarch calls it its “most cinematic campaign yet,” but, as always, fans will decide if it lives up to the claim.

If the campaign doesn’t sell you, the multiplayer just might. Black Ops 7 launches with 16 traditional 6v6 maps, two large-scale 20v20 battlegrounds, and more than 50 weapons blending futuristic prototypes with old-school favourites. The new Omnimovement System adds 360-degree sprinting, diving, and sliding, making movement a bigger part of combat. Classic modes like Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Hardpoint return, alongside a new 6v6 objective mode called Overload. And in a long-awaited quality-of-life change, Treyarch is finally dropping the disbanding lobby system, meaning you can now stick with your squad between matches.

You can’t say Black Ops without saying Zombies. Treyarch’s iconic mode is back, promising a “descent into madness” through the Dark Aether. The debut map is rumoured to be the series’ biggest yet, possibly with vehicles to help you traverse sprawling zones. Players can choose between the Black Ops 6 crew or the original four, Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai, each returning with new wonder weapons, environmental hazards, and an “Ultra GobbleGum” system for deeper strategy. Leaks hint that six maps are planned for this cycle, including post-WWII New York and a volcanic Japanese temple.

Outer Worlds 2 runs better on Xbox Series X than PS5, report finds

In a surprising twist, Obsidian’s latest RPG performs best on Xbox’s console with PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro struggling to keep up.

To run smoothly, you’ll need at least an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, 16 GB of RAM, and an RTX 3060 or RX 6600 XT. Storage comes in heavy at 125 GB, so start clearing space now. Activision is enforcing TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot for “the strongest safeguard possible” against cheaters. Early beta data shows the RICOCHET anti-cheat system catching offenders in under three matches, a promising start for a franchise often plagued by unfair play.

Everything from Black Ops 7 operators to maps will sync with Warzone at launch. Season 1, dropping in December, will bring a full Warzone overhaul with new content and cross-progression. Marketing has been in full swing since its cinematic reveal at the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase, followed by deep dives at Gamescom and Call of Duty: Next. The October beta gave fans their first hands-on with the new movement system, and it’s safe to say the hype is very real.

The takeaway

With Black Ops 7, Treyarch isn’t reinventing the FPS wheel, it’s polishing it. Between the co-op campaign, massive Zombies expansion, and smoother multiplayer systems, this could be one of the most well-rounded Call of Duty titles in years. And if you’re looking for something to fill that GTA VI-shaped hole until 2026, this might just be the firefight you’ve been waiting for.

It seems that some FPS (first-person shooter) fans, dissatisfied with Call of Duty, are treating Battlefield 6 as a risky venture.
