Mikel Arteta Expresses Concern Over Viktor Gyokeres’ Injury

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says he is worried about Viktor Gyokeres’ muscle injury after the Swedish striker was forced off during the club’s 2-0 win at Burnley on Saturday.

Viktor Gyokeres, a £64 million summer signing, had given Arsenal the lead before being substituted at half-time. Since then, the 27-year-old has not returned to training and will miss the Champions League tie against Slavia Prague on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Arteta confirmed that the forward will not be involved in the midweek fixture.

“No, he’s definitely not available,” he said. “He hasn’t trained today. We need to do some more tests and scans in the next few days to understand the extent of the injury. But he’s not available.”

Pressed further on whether it might be a minor setback, Arteta admitted he feared the issue could be more serious than initially thought.

“No, I am concerned because he hasn’t had many muscular issues and he needed to leave the pitch and he was feeling something,” he said. “That’s obviously never a good sign, especially for a player who is very, very explosive. So we are digging in a little bit more to understand where we are in terms of the injury and we’ll announce the moment we know.”

Gyokeres has been one of Arsenal’s bright sparks this season, scoring four Premier League goals and quickly adapting to life in north London. His absence, however, adds to an already worrying list of injuries for the Gunners.

According to Arteta, seven players are currently sidelined, including forwards Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Jesus.
