Top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Oke Ogun axis of Oyo State have declared their total support for Governor Seyi Makinde, describing his achievements as the most remarkable in the state’s history.
The PDP leaders, drawn from the ten local government areas of Irepo, Olorunsogo, Oorelope, Atisbo, Saki West, Saki East, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa, Kajola and Iseyin, passed a vote of confidence in Governor Makinde’s leadership, commending his developmental strides across the state.
The meeting, attended by party chairmen and executive members from the ten councils, was held on Thursday at the Iseyin Demonstration School I & II field. It came shortly after the resignation of Senator Hosea Agboola, popularly known as “Hallelujah,” from the PDP, along with some of his followers in the Oke Ogun zone.
Leading figures at the meeting included the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal; former House of Representatives member, Hon. Shina Peller; PDP Board of Trustees member, Hamid Gbadamosi; and former state PDP chairman, Pa Jacob Adetoro, among others.
The leaders described Senator Agboola’s exit as a blessing in disguise, stressing that the party structure in Oke Ogun remains intact. All ten local government chairmen affirmed their continued loyalty to the PDP, stating that none of them had defected.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Shina Peller said the gathering became necessary to assess the state of the party after Agboola’s departure.
According to him, “This stakeholders’ meeting was convened to discuss the situation of the PDP in each local government. We discovered that there are no issues. I align with our leader, Governor Seyi Makinde, who has said that the 2027 election will be between hungry Nigerians and the rest. Whether a governor or senator leaves the PDP, on election day, everyone has only one vote.”
He added, “The era of imposing decisions on people is gone. Nigerians now want good leadership. What’s happening in the PDP is a blessing in disguise; it gives serious-minded people the chance to build a new system. You can’t create change by fighting the old one; you must introduce something new. For the PDP or APC to truly evolve, the old order must give way. That’s what Governor Makinde is doing. Even the deaf and the blind know that his administration is the best Oyo State has ever had.”
Reading the six-point communiqué at the end of the meeting, Adejumobi Samuel Ademola emphasised the need for unity and urged members to expand the party’s membership base, noting that welcoming new members would further strengthen the PDP in Oke Ogun.
The PDP chieftains lauded Governor Makinde’s contributions to the socio-economic development of Oke Ogun, citing major achievements in road construction, agricultural advancement, and cultural revitalisation of the zone.
In conclusion, attendees reaffirmed their loyalty to the party, applauded Governor Makinde’s leadership, and passed a vote of confidence in his administration.
