Rural dwellers in Sokoto State have received a major infrastructural boost as the state government commissioned a ₦4.1 billion, 14.4-kilometre road linking several agrarian communities across Kware, Gwadabawa, and Wurno local government areas.

The project — jointly funded by the Sokoto State Government, the World Bank, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) — was inaugurated by the former Military Administrator of the state, Navy Captain Abdulrasheed Adisa Raji (rtd).

Commissioning the Buzulega–Lukuyawa–Yar Gada–Tabanni–Malikawa–Shalla–Kware road, Captain Raji described rural roads as the “lifeline of socio-economic development,” noting that Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration was delivering on its promise of grassroots transformation.

“Rural roads are vital for healthcare, education, and commerce. The completion of this road clearly shows that Governor Aliyu is matching words with action,” Raji said.

He lauded the Governor’s foresight and commitment to people-oriented projects and urged residents to safeguard the facility against misuse.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Ahmed Aliyu said the road, awarded at a cost of ₦4,164,165,948.20, was designed to open up rural areas, ease the movement of farm produce, and reduce post-harvest losses.

“This road directly benefits thousands of residents and farmers who rely on this corridor for trade and access to essential services. Our focus remains on projects that touch the lives of ordinary people,” the Governor said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to modernise agriculture and improve rural infrastructure, commending the World Bank and CBN for their collaboration.

The Governor also urged local farmers and traders to expand production to strengthen food security.

In his goodwill message, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, commended the Governor for what he described as “visible and people-focused development.”

“Governor Aliyu is doing well. I urge other leaders to use their time in office to execute projects that impact their people,” the Sultan remarked.

Special Adviser on Rural Roads, Malami Muhammad Galadanci, disclosed that the project was initially designed as a feeder road but was upgraded to a fully tarred standard at the Governor’s directive. He added that all affected residents were duly compensated and that the project was completed on schedule.

The National Coordinator of the Rural Agricultural and Marketing Project (RAMM), represented by Engineer Abubakar Yahaya, noted that the initiative is part of a wider collaboration to improve rural mobility and agricultural marketing in Sokoto.

Also speaking, Hon. Bello Idris, Majority Leader of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, and the chairmen of Kware, Gwadabawa, and Wurno LGAs, thanked the Governor for delivering the project, saying it would enhance trade, transportation, and socio-economic activities across the benefiting communities.
