Renowned Christian preacher, Apostle Arome Osayi, has narrated the painful experience surrounding the kidnapping and eventual death of his brother, despite the family paying a ransom running into millions of naira.
Naija News reports that Apostle Osayi spoke during a recent sermon, where he opened up for the first time on how the tragedy unfolded and how he managed to remain emotionally stable through the ordeal.
A visibly sober Osayi recalled how his brother was abducted by terrorists and held in a forest location. Despite meeting all the kidnappers’ demands, including paying a huge ransom, the outcome was heartbreaking, he noted.
In his words: “My brother got kidnapped, he died in captivity after we had paid heavy ransom in millions… collected the money and they now called us to come and collect the corpse. I hope you know nothing hurts like that and then you see your own brother’s body dead in the forest. I hope you know nothing hurts like that.”
Apostle Osayi said the shock of receiving his brother’s lifeless body after such a traumatising negotiation was indescribable.
He explained that although the incident shook him deeply, he made a conscious decision not to allow his emotions to overwhelm him.
“Ask my wife, I never shed a tear, not because I wasn’t emotionally attached to him, but because I know the Scriptures,” the cleric said.
According to him, the incident tested his emotional balance but he drew strength from his understanding of the Bible. He said, “If you know the Scriptures, you will never allow yourself slip into excessive grief or excessive excitement. You will stay in between.
“So yes, I didn’t shed a tear because I didn’t want to give Satan an opportunity to preach to me. And we are still here, we have not broken down. Your life flows in the direction of your most predominant thoughts.”
Apostle Arome stressed that the painful loss did not break him, noting that he made a deliberate choice to guard his mind and spirit during the crisis.
