NSCDC Intercepts Underage Children Suspected To Be Recruitment Attempt For Bandits
Security operatives of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yagba Area Command, in collaboration with other security agencies in Isanlu, acting on credible intelligence from community hunters, intercepted a truck conveying 21 children aged between six and 17 years into Kogi State.
Naija News reports that the latest development was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo.
Fanwo said the group of underage children were being trafficked into the state in what is suspected to be a covert recruitment attempt for banditry training.
According to him, initial investigations revealed that the children were moved from different northern states under suspicious circumstances by adults who could not provide legitimate justification for their movement.
He further stated that arrests were made as security operatives intensified surveillance in the area, uncovering additional persons allegedly connected to the movement of the minors.
He said, “At about 1500hrs on December 5, 2025, eagle-eyed security operatives of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yagba Area Command, in collaboration with other security agencies in Isanlu, acting on credible intelligence from community hunters, intercepted a truck conveying 21 children aged between six and 17 years into Kogi State.
“Several suspects linked to the trafficking operation have been arrested, including individuals who claimed they were transporting the children to establish an informal ‘Islamic school’ within Yagba East.”
“Some of the suspects were also found with items raising significant security concerns.”
Fanwo also stated that while the rescued children had been transferred to the NSCDC State Command in Lokoja for detailed investigation and proper profiling of all persons involved, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had directed the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to take full custody of the underage victims, ensure their well-being and provide necessary psychosocial support pending the conclusion of investigations.
The commissioner added that all individuals found culpable in the trafficking operation would be prosecuted in line with Kogi State’s child trafficking and child rights protection laws.
He noted, “Upon completion of profiling and verification, the children will be handed over to their respective state governments for further investigation and eventual reintegration with their families.
“The Kogi State Government reiterates its uncompromising stance against child trafficking, criminal infiltration and any form of security threat.
“The administration of Governor Ododo will continue to work closely with security agencies and local communities to safeguard every part of the state.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria requesting formal consent to deploy Nigerian troops to the neighbouring Republic of Benin.
In the letter, Tinubu asks for Senate approval to send both air and ground forces, following a plea from the Benin government for urgent military assistance.
The request comes after a failed coup attempt in Benin, which saw mutinous soldiers seize the state television station and briefly declare the government deposed.
Earlier, the Beninese authorities had formally appealed to Nigeria for help. Their Note Verbal asked for immediate air support, as well as deployment of ground forces strictly under Benin’s command to protect constitutional institutions and civilian safety.
Responding to that appeal, Tinubu ordered the Nigerian Air Force to take control of Benin’s airspace and dispatched ground troops to support loyal forces.
Following the intervention, the coup was repelled, the state television was retaken, and control restored.
Tinubu lauded the military’s “gallantry” and said Nigeria’s action helped stabilise a neighbouring democracy.
However, some legal experts have questioned the constitutionality of the move. They argue that under Section 5 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, the President must secure prior approval of the Senate before deploying the armed forces abroad, except in very limited and specific circumstances.
Critics claim that deploying troops to another sovereign country without such approval may amount to an impeachable offence.
In a related development, a Senate source told reporters, while the President did write to the Senate, the constitution actually gives the legislature up to 14 days to ratify or reject foreign combat deployments — a timeframe often overlooked in public discourse.
With the letter now before the Senate, all eyes are on how quickly lawmakers will act.

“The military is trained for conventional war. If the people you are dealing with are fleeing targets or living among your people, you will need different types of training,” he explained.
The former President suggested Nigeria should look at countries like Colombia for help and training, saying, “There is no shame in that.”
The influential figure hinted that some people benefit from the war continuing. He called the entire situation an “industry.” “The whole thing is an industry. It is an industry,” Obasanjo declared.
He stressed that Nigeria needs better training, strong intelligence (knowing what the enemy is doing), and modern technology to win.
Obasanjo warned that foreign countries won’t help if they can’t trust the security officials due to secrets being leaked. He also revealed that in 2011, Boko Haram once agreed to stop fighting for 21 days to talk, but the government failed to respond.

A young Nigerian lady has reactions on social media after revealing that her father refused to help her with ₦5,000 during her IT defense at school, saying he was expecting money next week.
In a viral video shared by @The Benin Blogger on X (formerly Twitter), she explained that she messaged him asking for just enough to manage, but he told her to pray for him so that money people owed him could come through.
That seemed fair at first, until she later saw him sharing receipts of ₦50,000 for Saint Mary Catholic Church and ₦60,000 for Winners Chapel in the family group chat.
She expressed her frustration, saying:
“When you begin to hate your parents, people will say ‘he’s still your dad, you’re ungrateful.”
The young lady highlighted the unfairness of seeing her father spend money she couldn’t access while she struggled, sparking heated debates online about parental priorities and fairness.

The abducted schoolchildren from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State have shared the harrowing experience on how their abductors forced them to sleep on a trampoline inside the bush and were warned not to make noise.
One of the schoolchildren rescued, Florence Michael, spoke on Monday shortly after the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, officially handed the children over to the Niger State Government.
According to her, the terrorists forced them to lie on a trampoline inside a thick bush near a river, warning them that any noise would attract beating and delay their return home.
“They told us if we make noise, they would beat us and we would not go back home,” she said.
“They gave us a trampoline to lie on and kept us in the bush near a river.”
She appealed to the government to intensify protection measures so that schoolchildren across the country can learn without fear.
Speaking during the handover, Ribadu disclosed that the joint rescue operation was coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Armed Forces, and other security agencies.
Ribadu was represented by Wing Commander Abdullahi Idi Hong said the federal government had already rolled out immediate short-term protection strategies for schools in high-risk areas, while also partnering state governments, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to develop community-driven, long-term security solutions.
According to him, insecurity will not be allowed to trample on the right of any Nigerian child to education.

Despite the alleged secret renewed crisis in the political space of Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has continued to deliver people-oriented projects in the state.
This is the governor expressed his readiness to inaugurate 10 strategic projects that will positively benefit both residents and indigenes of the state.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Benibo Anabraba, who revealed this to journalists yesterday during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, said Governor Fubara is dedicated to delivering democratic dividends to the people.
Benibo, who hailed President Bola Tinubu for his intervention and magnanimity, which ensured the return of the Fubara-led administration, assured the state that the governor would continue to fulfill his obligation to the people.
The SSG said: “As a government that secured its electoral victory on the popular mandate of the good people of Rivers State, we pledged at the inception of this administration to make the welfare of our citizens a priority of our social contract, and this we have assiduously worked to protect and provide.”
He said that through the provision of critical infrastructure and other welfare programmes, including keeping the peace and order of the state for its socio-economic growth and development, the people of the state will feel the impact of the incumbent government of Fubara.
“Despite the resultant effects of the interregnum in democratic governance, we have taken off in earnest, from where we stopped, particularly in the initiation, execution, and completion of projects, with special appreciation to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose timely and fatherly intervention and magnanimity ensured that this administration returned to fulfill its obligation to the people of the state,” she said.
Benibo further disclosed that the inauguration would commence on December 10 to conclude on December 23 this year, saying that the projects for unveiling and flag-off will cut across the East and West, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Kwerre, Emohua, Obio/Akpor, and Port-Harcourt City Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
He thanked Rivers people for finding Governor Fubara, who he described as being “humbled by the trust reposed in him, and honoured by the privilege bestowed on him to serve as the governor of Rivers State at this time of our lives as a people, and thereby convey the governor’s commitment to ensuring that the dividends of democracy are delivered to all citizens irrespective of location, while maintaining the peace and development of Rivers State at all times.”
The SSG responded to questions from the journalists and assured the Red Rivers people of their security, urging them to follow the path of peace.
He listed the projects to be inaugurated to include extension of dualisation of Ahoada-Omoku road, Egbeda-Omerelu link road, Ikwerre road-Igwuruta-Airport, RIVTAF Housing Estate/anniversary celebration, and Ihuowo-Ihuama ring road
Others are Obodhi-Ozochi road and bridge, Ogbakiri junction (roundabout)-Ogbakiri Waterfront road, Ahoada Zonal Hospital, Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters, and Federal High Court Complex, while the Ipo town-Airport road bypass will be flagged off soon.

President Bola Tinubu has written the Senate, seeking its consent to deploy to the Republic of Benin for combat operations in another country.
The letter was read on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.
According to the President, the letter, which was in sequel to section 5(5) of 1999 Constitution as amended, also became imperative following the need for peacekeeping as a sister country.
The President said that deploying the troop was as a result of a request by the Republic of Benin for assistance and considering the close ties of friendship and brotherhood.
It will be recalled that soldiers operating under the “Military Committee for Refoundation”, led by Lt Col Pascal Tigri, briefly seized the state television station in Cotonou on Sunday, announcing the overthrow of President Patrice Talon’s administration, but the coup was thwarted by the intervention of fighter jets and troops deployed in the neighbouring country by President Tinubu.

President Bola Tinubu has formally sought the approval of the Senate to deploy Nigerian troops in the Benin Republic to help protect the neighbouring country’s democratic institutions.
In a letter just read to senators by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu said the troops, deployed on a Peace mission, was in compliance with Section 5(4) Part II of the 1999 Constitution in due consultations with the National Defence Council.
Tinubu explained that the deployment was in response to a request made by the Republic of Benin in the wake of the attempted military coup there over the weekend.
Tinubu’s letter was referred to the Committee of the Whole for immediate action.

The Kano State Police Command has recovered seven stolen vehicles and arrested several suspects in a series of successful operations.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the command spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, and issued to newsmen.
He said the operations were aimed at combating vehicle theft and related crimes, including armed robbery, in the state.
According to the statement: “The Command’s Special Intervention Squad on the direction of the Command CP, worked tirelessly to track down stolen vehicles and apprehend suspects.
“Notable recoveries include a Toyota RAV4, Peugeot 406, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris, a truck, a white Toyota Matrix, and a white Forland truck.”
He said the command has also succeeded in arresting several suspects, including those involved in armed robbery.
He added that the suspects are currently assisting with investigations and will be brought to justice.
