FIFA Ranking: Super Falcons slip one spot, retain top position in Africa
Nigeria’s Super Falcons dropped one spot in the latest women’s ranking released by the Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, on Thursday.
Previously ranked 36th, the Super Falcons dropped to 37th.
The Super Falcons were inactive during the last FIFA women’s international break which contributed to their current position in the monthly ranking.
Justine Madugu’s side, however, maintained their position as the number one African team on the ranking despite their slip globally.
South Africa, Ghana, Zambia and Morocco complete the top five highest ranked countries in Africa.
Globally, Spain remain the highest ranked team with the United States of America, Germany, England and Sweden completing the top five.

NFL star Josh Allen and wife Hailee Steinfeld announce they are expecting their first baby just months after tying the knot
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and his wife, actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld, have announced they are expecting a baby.
The couple posted a video to their Instagram story with Steinfeld showing off a baby bump and Allen keeling down in the snow to kiss her tummy.
The two were also seen standing together, hugging and holding hands before the video showed the two of them standing on either side of a tiny snowman.
Steinfeld also made the announcement in her weekly newsletter, which was released on Friday.
After the 29-year-old ran down a list of 29 moments she loved this year, she saved the baby news for last.
The couple tied the knot in a private wedding in California in May this year – after over two years of dating.

Steinfeld previously opened up about starting a family with husband Allen in a Bustle interview
Earlier this year, Steinfeld opened up about the potential of starting a family with Allen and ‘finding her person’ after previous relationships were unsuccessful.
‘I literally thank God every day that I found my person, and it’s the greatest thing in the world.
‘Life makes sense. Everything makes sense. I feel like I am stepping into the version that I’ve always dreamed of being, having so much to do with being with him.’
And the brunette beauty — who stunned at Paris Fashion Week in July — said becoming a mother is a no-brainer — asked if the couple plan to have kids, she answered, ‘Of course.’
She emphasized in the November cover story that she feels more grounded in who she is than ever.
‘I’m stepping into my own as a woman, understanding who I am in every sense of the word,’ the silver screen siren affirmed.
Hailee outlined the details of her wedding day in her Beau Society email newsletter in June.
‘I’m sitting here with Josh, and we’re reminiscing on the best weekend of our lives for the millionth time,’ she wrote.

Exclusive DailyMail.com photos showed the moment a beaming Hailee was walked down the aisle by her dad Peter.
In a modern twist, she strayed from the traditional bridal bouquet and instead held a single rose covered in crystals.
The couple sealed their nuptials with a kiss in front of a crowd of guests before making their way back down the aisle as newlyweds.
The al-fresco wedding was held at San Ysidro ranch in Montecito — a celebrity favorite that has previously seen Chris Pratt, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Simpson marry on its grounds.
For Hailee and Josh, the gardens of the $3,000-a-night hotel were decked out with white roses and elaborately trimmed bushes.
Along with her father, the star’s mother Cheri and brother Griffin were also present, as were the athlete’s parents Joel and LaVonne, and his siblings Jason, Nicala and Makenna.

In February, Allen was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player for the 2024 season.
This season, Allen has guided the Bills through choppier waters than normal.
After dominating the AFC East the past four seasons, Buffalo now sits at 9-4 behind the New England Patriots.
Buffalo has won five of their last seven games to start clicking at the right time as the NFL regular season begins to wind down.
With one ring on his finger already in 2025, Allen will hope to add another in the form of a Super Bowl title in February of 2026.

Lindsey Vonn reaps rewards of her dramatic body transformation with skiing victory before Winter Olympics
Lindsey Vonn proved she’d never lost it as the queen of downhill skiing continued her comeback on the slopes of St. Moritz on Friday.
At the age of 41, the Team USA sensation made history as she claimed victory at the 2025-2026 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup.
The stunningly fast win marked her first victory in nearly eight years – and the first in her comeback with titanium implants in her right knee after a five-year retirement.
The triumph on the Swiss track also saw the Olympic skier become the oldest winner of a World Cup race since the circuit started in 1967.
The United States ski great seized the lead by an astonishing 1.16 seconds ahead of Mirjam Puchner of Austria. Even wilder was that Vonn trailed by 0.61 after the first two time checks at the Swiss resort.
Vonn’s lead was later cut to 0.98 – still a massive margin in downhill – when unheralded Magdalena Egger took second place from teammate Puchner.
Lindsey Vonn claimed victory at the 2025-2026 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup on Friday
The stunningly fast win in St. Moritz marked her first first victory in nearly eight years
Her run Friday looked routine when she dropped tenths of seconds to Puchner’s time on the top half of the sunbathed Corviglia course, where the finish is at altitude above 2,000 meters (6,500 feet).
Vonn then was faster than anyone through the next speed checks, touching 119 kph (74 mph), and posted the fastest time splits for the bottom half.
She skied through the finish area and bumped against the inflated safety barrier, lay down in the snow and raised her arms on seeing her time.
Vonn got up, punched the air with her right fist and shrieked with joy before putting her hands to her left cheek in the style of Steph Curry’s ‘Night, night’ gesture .
‘It was an amazing day, I couldn´t be happier, pretty emotional,’ Vonn told Swiss broadcaster RTS. ‘I felt good this summer but I wasn´t sure how fast I was. I guess I know now how fast I am.’
Soon after, Vonn shed tears on the podium in the finish area when The Star-Spangled Banner played.
It was a perfect start to her Olympic season to get a first victory since a downhill in March 2018 at Are, Sweden.
Earlier this week, Vonn shared a sneak peek into her body’s amazing transformation as she prepares to compete in the 2026 Olympics – the sixth games of her career.
Vonn opened up on her body transformation for the Winter Olympics earlier this week
After racing into the finish area, she lay don and raised her arms on seeing her time
The skiing legend has not taken the slopes in Olympic competition since the 2018 Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang, South Korea.
But, as proven on Friday, Vonn is in prime condition as she’ll hope to compete in February’s games held at Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy.
‘Physically, I’m in possibly the best shape I’ve ever been in,’ Vonn said earlier this week.
‘And my body doesn’t hurt, so that’s the best part of all.’
Over the summer, Vonn committed to re-building her strength in the offseason she felt she lacked in her 2024-25 return season.
‘My goal was to get a lot stronger this summer,’ she said. ‘I was thinner than I would have liked last season. I was still quite a bit lighter than I was when I was racing in my prime.’
However, after ‘a lot of hard work’, Vonn says she was ‘able to gain about 12 pounds’ over her offseason.
‘I was probably the most disciplined I’ve ever been with my diet and just how I approached the entire summer,’ said the three-time Olympic medalist.
At 41, she become the oldest winner of a World Cup race since the circuit started in 1967
‘I put everything I had into being as physically prepared as possible.’
The 2010 Olympic champion is targeting another gold medal at the Milan Cortina Winter Games in February. Women’s Alpine skiing is at the storied Cortina d’Ampezzo course in the Dolomites, which Vonn has mastered in her career with 12 World Cup race wins.
Vonn has shredded age records since her return to World Cup racing at St. Moritz one year ago.
She’s now the oldest winner of a men’s or women’s race, taking the mark set by 37-year-old Didier Cuche, also in Switzerland, in 2012 when he triumphed in a super-G at Crans-Montana. Until Friday, the women’s record was 34 years, 7 months set by Federica Brignone in March after victory in a super-G at Kvitfjell, Norway.
No woman aged at least 35 ever was on a World Cup race podium until March when Vonn placed second in a super-G at Sun Valley.
No women aged at least 36 ever had a points-scoring result in downhill until Vonn last season. No women aged at least 37 ever had a points-scoring result in any World Cup event until Vonn, according to the ski-db.com archive.
Friday´s race was Vonn´s 125th start in World Cup downhill in her storied career, 24 years after the first at Lake Louise, Canada.
She has now won a record-extending 44 of them, including at St. Moritz in 2012, and has 83 race victories across all World Cup disciplines.

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh finally speaks out on Michigan replacement Sherrone Moore’s arrest and firing
Former Michigan and current Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has spoken out on the firing of his Wolverines successor, Sherrone Moore.
Moore, 39, was fired by Michigan on Wednesday after it emerged that he had engaged in an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a staff member.
Just hours after his dismissal, the disgraced coach was arrested after allegedly entering a woman’s apartment, terrorizing her and threatening to harm himself in the aftermath of his dismissal.
Moore, who was said to be ‘suicidal’ when he broke into the Ann Arbor apartment, was charged with breaking and entering, home invasion and stalking at his arraignment on Friday.
Harbaugh, who hired Moore to be the Wolverines’ tight ends coach in 2018, addressed the scandal on Friday as the school continues to navigate the fall out of the dismissal and subsequent criminal charges.
‘Still processing that like a lot of people, I’m sure,’ Harbaugh, who spent nine years at Michigan, said, adding that he found out about Moore’s firing by an equipment staffer after practice Thursday.

Harbaugh hired Moore to be the Wolverines’ tight ends coach in 2018 while head coach
After being hired by Harbaugh in 2018, Moore rose through the ranks at Michigan, climbing from tight ends coach to offensive coordinator, helping the Wolverines to the 2023 National Championship title.
Moore was then named as Michigan head coach for the past two seasons following Harbaugh’s departure to the NFL last year.
However, his Wolverines career came to a crashing halt this week when he was axed by the school for what was described as an ‘inappropriate relationship with a staff member,’ who has yet to be identified publicly.
According to police dispatch audio obtained by Daily Mail, an unidentified 911 caller claimed Moore assaulted her on Wednesday, adding that he had a knife and had been stalking her ‘for months.’ A dispatcher is later heard saying that the suspect was described by his wife as ‘suicidal’ after losing his job earlier in the day.
Pittsfield, Michigan police and Washtenaw County prosecutors alleged the uninvited Moore was unarmed when he entered an unlocked door and ‘engaged in a verbal argument with the victim that escalated.’ From there, Moore allegedly grabbed two butter knives and a pair of scissors while threatening to harm himself.
‘I’m going to kill myself,’ Moore told the alleged victim, as quoted by assistant prosecutor Kati Rezmierski on Friday. ‘I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life.’
Rezmierski said Moore and the woman had been engaged in an ‘intimate relationship’ for a number of years. Magistrate Odetalla M. Odetalla forbid the court from identifying the alleged victim, but the 911 call that led to Moore’s arrest was made from an apartment belonging to his executive assistant, Paige Shiver.
Moore allegedly fled the residence before police could arrive. He was ultimately arrested Wednesday evening at a church parking lot in a neighboring town.

If convicted on all counts, Moore could face up to six years in prison and as much as $3,500 in fines, according to Washtenaw County’s Friday statement. Moore has since been freed on $25,00 bond after being ordered to wear a GPS device and continue undergoing mental health treatment.
Moore appeared at Friday’s hearing remotely from Washtenaw County Jail. As seen on the courtroom video monitor, Moore was dressed in a white jumpsuit while quietly sitting in a confined cinderblock room.
During the hearing, Moore was told by Odetalla not to consume any controlled substances, such as alcohol or marijuana, or possess any weapons while out on bond.
Defense attorney Joe Simon insisted there is ‘no evidence to suggest’ his client is a threat to the public while out on bond.
His next court appearance is January 22.

Fired Michigan coach Sherrone Moore charged with home invasion and stalking after ‘attack at his assistant’s apartment’
Fired Michigan coach Sherrone Moore was charged with breaking and entering, home invasion and stalking at his arraignment Friday days after allegedly entering a woman’s apartment, terrorizing her and threatening to harm himself in the aftermath of his dismissal.

The 32-year-old Shiver has been a visible part of the Wolverines football program as Moore’s executive assistant. She’s also the daughter of Bears scout Jeff Shiver, who has been a constant presence with the historic NFL team since 1987.
Interestingly, the Bears drafted one of Moore’s players in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft in tight end Colston Loveland. The elder Shiver has also appeared at Michigan games with his daughter, as seen in one 2021 Instagram post that was ‘liked’ by Moore.
Paige was even profiled on the Bears’ website in 2016 amid her long-time battle with Pompe Disease, which is a rare disorder that impacts the heart and skeletal muscles.
‘I get a lot of pain throughout my body,’ she wrote about her illness. ‘When I am in pain, I am really in pain and there is nothing that can be done but hope and pray that it will go away. This disease has been such an impact on my life and sometimes I feel as if it has taken over my life because every day is a battle.’

Moore, pictured with wife Kelli, was taken into police custody hours after he was fired from his job over an ‘inappropriate relationship with a staffer’ as police investigated an alleged assault
At the time, Paige was receiving semi-weekly treatments for the disorder and was considering a move to Baton Rouge after graduating from Michigan’s Big Ten rival, Purdue. She ultimately made her way to Michigan athletics, where she was promoted to Assistant Recruiting & Operations Coordinator in 2022 and later became Executive Assistant to the Head Coach.
School records show Paige’s salary spiked 70.6 percent over that time, from $58,025 in 2022 and 2023 to $99,000 in 2025.
The younger Shiver has switched her social media profiles to ‘private’ since the Moore scandal broke and has not responded to the Daily Mail’s emails requesting comment.
Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel was reportedly informed about mental health issues facing Moore on Sunday – three days before the coach was fired ‘for cause.’
As one source told CBS News’ DeJanay Booth-Singleton, prominent donors told Manuel that Moore was struggling with his mental health. Manuel would later fire Moore in a one-on-one conversation without the presence of human resources or security, according to CBS News. It’s not know how or if Moore’s mental state impacted his dismissal.
The source went on to tell CBS News that this was the school’s third investigation of Moore over his alleged conduct with women.
Michigan athletic department spokespeople declined to comment when asked by the Daily Mail about the reports.
Moore took over from Jim Harbaugh after he left for the Los Angeles Chargers job. Moore served as interim coach for Harbaugh amid a pair of scandals in the 2023 season.
Then-Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh hired Moore at the school in 2018. Harbaugh would go on to lead the Wolverines to a national title in 2023 before taking the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers job the following year and being replaced by Moore in Ann Arbor.
Asked about Moore on Friday, Harbaugh told reporters he was ‘still processing’ the situation in Ann Arbor.
Interestingly, the 39-year-old Moore is the sixth Harbaugh hire to find himself in trouble with the law at Michigan.
Ex-Wolverines offensive coordinator Matt Weiss was accused by federal prosecutors of stealing private, intimate images of student athletes and ultimately charged with hacking. He has pleaded not guilty to all 24 charges in the case as he faces multiple class-action lawsuits over the allegations.
Other Wolverines coaches, such as assistants Denard Robinson and Greg Scruggs, were arrested for allegedly driving drunk, as were director of football operations Jim Minick and director of performance science Fergus Connolly.
The timing of Moore’s dismissal leaves Michigan football in a precarious situation.
The Wolverines accepted a Citrus Bowl bid to play No. 13 Texas on December 31. But while associate head coach Biff Poggi has been elevated to interim head coach in the wake of Moore’s firing, that still leaves the program without a true head coach at the height of recruiting season.
The transfer portal will open for 15 days in early January and national signing day is February 4, leaving Michigan with precious little time to build a team that can compete with Big Ten rivals like Ohio State and Indiana.
Moore’s salary started at $5.5 million in 2024 and reached $6.1 million this season with various incentives.
Of course, any hope Moore had for a buyout was likely squandered when the school fired him for cause.
‘Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member,’ Manuel wrote in his statement. ‘This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.’
Although Moore proved himself as an assistant coach at Louisville and Central Michigan, it was in Ann Arbor where he became a rising star in the sport, beginning in 2023.
Moore is pictured next to his now-former assistant, Shiver, during a game on Big Ten Network
Shiver’s father, Jeff, has been a lead scout for the NFL’s Chicago Bears for more than 30 years
It was that season when Harbaugh was suspended in the midst of recruiting violations as well as a sign-stealing scandal. Moore served as interim head coach and led the Wolverines to victory in all four contests before Harbaugh returned to lead Michigan to its first national title since 1997.
After Harbaugh left at the conclusion of Michigan’s 2023 national championship-winning season, Moore was elevated to full-time head coach.
The Wolverines went 8-5 under Moore in his first season – beating rivals Ohio State and winning the ReliaQuest Bowl.
This year, while they couldn’t beat Ohio State, Michigan still improved to a 9-3 record.
However, Moore was suspended for two games after he was found to have deleted text messages sent to Connor Stalions – the former Michigan analyst at the center of the aforementioned sign-stealing scandal.
Moore is just the latest big-name coach to get the axe this season, following turnover at LSU, Ole Miss, Florida, Penn State, UCLA, Virginia Tech and rival Michigan State.
Unless Michigan can lure an NFL coach to Ann Arbor, or perhaps someone leading another top program, the Wolverines will have a limited candidate pool to work with heading into the 2026 season.
There is also a danger that Michigan stars, such as quarterback Bryce Underwood, could opt to transfer rather than waiting for a new coach to be hired by Manuel.

Mohamed Salah Back In Liverpool Squad After Clear-the-Air Talks With Arne Slot
Liverpool have brought Mohamed Salah back into the fold for Saturday afternoon’s Premier League meeting with Brighton following what club sources described as constructive discussions between the forward and head coach Arne Slot on Friday.
The decision comes at a time when Liverpool are stretched by injuries, and Slot is understood to have opted for a pragmatic approach as the Reds look to steady their league form.
Although tensions have not fully disappeared, the club and Mohamed Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, are continuing to work through the unresolved issues while the Egyptian prepares to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah, 33, was omitted from the travelling party for Tuesday’s Champions League match at Inter Milan after publicly claiming that his relationship with Slot had deteriorated and that he had been “thrown under the bus”.
His remarks followed the 3-3 draw at Leeds, where he was left on the bench for the third match in a row.
In the same interview, Salah hinted that Saturday could serve as his farewell to Anfield and revealed that his mother had been invited to attend the match.
Naija News reports that Slot, who faced questions about the situation during his Friday press conference, insisted there were “no reasons not to want Mohamed Salah to stay” at Liverpool. Asked about the player’s longer-term prospects, he said: “I will have a conversation with Mo. The outcome of that conversation determines how things will look.”
Liverpool hosts Brighton at 15:00 GMT, aiming to bounce back after consecutive league draws.
Salah has not started a match since the Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven on 26 November, and his most recent appearance came off the bench in the 1-1 draw at Sunderland on 3 December.
He has been an unused substitute in two of Liverpool’s last three league fixtures.
Slot added: “After the Sunderland game, there were a lot of conversations between his representatives and ours, between him and me.”
Salah leaves for international duty on Monday and, should Egypt progress all the way to the final in Morocco on 18 January, he may be unavailable for up to eight Liverpool matches.
Salah has scored five goals in 18 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League this season and has netted 250 goals in 420 games for the club.

NFL star TJ Watt undergoes surgery to repair collapsed lung and will not play this week
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a partially collapsed lung after falling ill at team practice this week.
Watt was rushed to hospital with the troubling health issue on Wednesday, before having the procedure the following day, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
It is believed the 31-year-old will be discharged from hospital on Friday, yet he still won’t be fit in time to face the Miami Dolphins on Monday night after being ruled out by Pittsburgh.
The Steelers confirmed his medical scare in a statement on Thursday while revealing he would not take further part in practice and his status for Week 15 was in question.
The team said: ‘T.J. Watt is currently in a local hospital for further medical evaluation of his lung after experiencing discomfort at the practice facility on Wednesday.
‘He will not be at practice on Thursday, and his status for Monday night’s game vs. Miami is in question. Coach [Mike] Tomlin will provide more updates at the appropriate time’.
Steelers linebacker TJ Watt underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a partially collapsed lung
Watt has established himself as one of the best pass rushers in the league since being drafted
Schefter later reported that Watt’s injury occurred during treatment at the team facility before he was taken to hospital.
Back in the summer, Watt signed a three-year, $123million deal with the Steelers – making him the NFL’s highest-paid defender in the process.
The four-time All-Pro’s contract also includes $108m guaranteed, while he is set to earn $21m this season in the final year of his previous deal.
Watt’s issue comes just days after his Steelers teammate, receiver DK Metcalf, was hospitalized after experiencing stomach pains on a journey back to Pittsburgh.
Metcalf boarded a flight home with the rest of the Steelers team after their win over the Baltimore Ravens, only to begin suffering from stomach issues.
Pittsburgh medical staff removed the 27-year-old from the plane and sent him to a hospital in Baltimore ‘out of an abundance of caution.’
After being evaluated, he later spent the night in a hotel and is set to fly back to Pittsburgh on Monday.
Metcalf was on the wrong end of a hard hit during the win at M&T Bank Stadium and medical staff sent him for tests in a bid to rule out serious internal injuries, NFL Network reported.

Victor Boniface Ruled Out Of Stuttgart Clash As Werder Bremen Injury List Grows
Werder Bremen have been dealt a fresh setback ahead of Sunday’s Bundesliga meeting with VfB Stuttgart, with Victor Boniface ruled out after suffering a knee injury in training.
The Nigerian striker, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, picked up a painful knee contusion earlier in the week. Head coach Horst Steffen offered clarity on the situation on Friday, telling Bremen t-online: “It was a knee-to-knee incident in a challenge. And that really hurt.”
The club has yet to confirm how long the 24-year-old will be out for, though he is expected to miss more than just the weekend fixture. Boniface has endured a difficult spell at Bremen, struggling for rhythm and still waiting for his first goal of the season.
His omission from Nigeria’s final 28-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, announced on Thursday, added to what has been a frustrating campaign for the forward. He had earlier been named in Eric Chelle’s provisional 54-man list but failed to make the final cut.
Boniface is not the only absentee troubling Steffen. Mitchell Weiser, Felix Agu and Maximilian Wöber remain out with long-term injuries, leaving the coach short of options during a crucial phase of the season.
The growing injury list is likely to force tactical adjustments as Bremen attempt to keep pace in the league.
