ASPOF to make security in Anambra, post election top agenda at end of year

By Abbanobi -Eku Onyeka

The upcoming ASPOF end of year event in Abuja will spotlight critical concerns facing Anambra State, with officials set to dissect ongoing security challenges and outline key post election priorities for the state’s development.

In a recent press release, Chief Coleman Uba, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the organization says members will gather for the organization’s 2025 end‑of‑year party on Tuesday, December the 16th, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the Anambra State Liaison Office, 19 T. Y. Danjuma Street, Asokoro, Abuja.

According to him, the meeting will focus on security challenges in Anambra State and post‑successful election issues, urging all members to prioritize attendance despite busy schedules.

The agenda for the event, he reiterates highlights security in Anambra State as a primary concern, alongside post‑election matters that require government attention.

Hear him: “Top among the agenda of the ASPOF end‑of‑year 2025 party include security in Anambra State, post successful election issues, so as to look at the issues we expect the government to focus on, and other matters,” even as he emphasizes the importance of discussing those critical topics.

In addition to the formal agenda, the meeting offers members a chance to visit the liaison office for the first time, fostering greater engagement.

“Some of our members have never visited our liaison office, please this offers you the opportunity to do so. Let’s come and discuss and, as we do so, may God reward us for honouring this invitation in Jesus’ name,” the PRO prayed.

The notice underscores that active participation is essential for ASPOF to achieve its objectives. “It is good to be active on our WhatsApp platform but much better if we attend our meetings. Some members have not attended one meeting in more than two years and some even in more than five years. This attitude will hardly make ASPOF achieve the objectives for which it was established,” the PRO said worriedly.

Members are reminded that details of the meeting will be shared shortly, and God will reward us for honouring this invitation in Jesus’s name, amen. The event aims to strengthen unity, discuss strategic security initiatives in Anambra (including community‑based vigilante groups like Agunechemba), and outline post‑election priorities for the incoming government.

2027: ‎I am not contesting Jigawa governorship — Senator Babangida dismisses rumours

‎Senator representing the Jigawa State North West, Babangida Hussaini Adamu, has distanced himself from the recent claims that he is preparing to contest the governorship seat of the state ahead in 2027.

This was contained in a statement signed by the senator and issued to newsmen in Dutse. The senator described the claims as baseless and deliberately misleading.

He described the allegations as false, mischievous and deliberately calculated to create division within the All Progressives Congress, APC.

‎The Senator expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of unfounded narratives being peddled on radio platforms, allegedly to mislead the public and stir unnecessary political tension.

According to the statement‎, “These claims are entirely false and are clearly intended to create unnecessary tension, division and mischief within our great party, the APC.”
He emphasized that both he and the Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, remain loyal members of one united party, working collaboratively and respectfully in the interest of the state.

‎This follow a recent radio comments by one Magaji Dogo that the Senator is planning to contest for the Governorship position in the coming election, also wearing a campaign-style T-shirt bearing the images of both Senator Babangida and Governor Namadi, alongside a cap, in an apparent attempt to give the false impression that the claims originated from the Senator himself

‎Senator Adamu, however, declared his unwavering loyalty to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to the Jigawa State Government under Governor Umar Namadi.

He stressed that his focus remains on supporting the leadership of the party and contributing meaningfully to the continued development of Jigawa State.

Calling on the leadership of the APC to take appropriate measures to address and curtail the spread of misleading narratives capable of undermining party unity and discipline, he urged party members and the general public to disregard the rumours and remain focused on the collective responsibility of strengthening the APC and advancing the socio-economic development of Jigawa State and Nigeria at large.

Free Christians in Nigeria Now – Nicki Minaj Speaks Out Again

American rapper Onika Maraj-Petty, popularly known as Nicki Minaj, has once again spoken out about the killings in Nigeria, calling for an end to the violence and demanding the freedom of Christians in the country.

On Friday, Minaj shared a message on X, using a faith-based post to express her concern over the situation.

She wrote, “On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other grounds is sinking sand. All other ground…” before adding, “FREE THE CHRISTIANS IN NIGERIA!!!!!!!!!! STOP THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

This is not the first time Minaj has addressed the crisis. In November, she spoke during a United Nations-related event on global religious freedom, highlighting violence against Christians in Nigeria.

At the event, U.S. official Michael Waltz described the killings in Nigeria as “genocide wearing the mask of chaos.”

He said, “In the Middle Belt and in the North, churches burn, mothers bury their children for the crime of singing Amazing Grace; pastors have been beheaded for preaching the Sermon on the Mount. Entire villages wake up to gunfire because they dare to commit the crime of calling Jesus their Lord.”

Waltz emphasised that the violence is targeted, not random. “This is not random violence. This is genocide wearing the mask of chaos,” he said, linking it to kidnappings. “It just happened yesterday; 25 little girls were ripped out of their school.”

Minaj, who also addressed the briefing, said Christians in Nigeria are being attacked solely because of their faith. “In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed.

Churches have been burnt, families have been torn apart, and entire communities live in constant fear, simply because of how they pray,” she said. She framed the issue as part of a broader global challenge and thanked former U.S. President Donald Trump for highlighting it.

However, the Nigerian government has repeatedly denied these claims, clarifying that the insecurity affects people of all faiths, with bandits and insurgents targeting citizens regardless of religion.

Man slams transport company over sudden trip rescheduling, threatens legal action

A frustrated commuter has taken to social media to call out a popular transport company after his scheduled trip to Lagos was allegedly rescheduled without proper notice.

He took to social media to voice his frustration, following the incident.

Man’s trip gets canceled

According to the man, he had booked his journey several days in advance, only to arrive at the company’s terminal to discover that his trip had been shifted to another day.

He claimed the company insisted that a text message had been sent to inform him of the change, even though he said he received no phone call or direct communication.

The man expressed outrage over what he described as poor customer service, questioning why a transport provider would alter a passenger’s travel plans unilaterally without confirmation. He also shared footage showing an almost empty terminal, which he said reflected the confusion surrounding the rescheduled trip.

Man threatens legal action

He further stated that the incident occurred on December 12, 2025, and warned that he intends to take legal action against the company if the issue is not addressed. The complaint has since generated reactions online, with many social media users sharing similar experiences and calling for improved accountability and customer relations among transport operators.

His words …

“Hello and welcome. My name is Mark. You see this country, this is a very, very stupid country. Right now I’m in a community called God is Good Motos, close to Jankwano. I booked for a journey to Lagos since Wednesday. Since Wednesday I booked in advance only for them to tell me that they sent me text this morning. Now look at the whole place, empty, see? Nothing, you just come and I have… How do you treat a customer like this? You didn’t call me, you said you sent me text to tell me that you rescheduled my journey from Friday to Saturday. What nonsense is that? Are you guys mad? That you are rescheduling my journey for me as if you know how you are planning my journey for me. I’m going to sue this country. I’m going to sue this company if I come back. Today is 12th December 2025. I will sue this company. God is good. I’m suing this company. How do you come? You don’t reschedule my journey like that for me. You don’t call nothing. You say send me text message.”

Christmas gift ideas: Top 10 picks under N30,000 budget

Every Christmas season, Nigerians face the same familiar dilemma: what thoughtful, meaningful and affordable item can you give to loved ones, colleagues or business partners without stretching your budget?

The Christmas holidays naturally come with increased spending pressures from travel to food to year-end obligations, and yet gifting remains one of the most powerful cultural expressions of appreciation.

Whether it’s a small token to acknowledge loyalty, something functional to support someone’s daily routine, or a simple gesture that says “I remembered you,” the value of a Christmas gift is rarely measured in cost alone.

With rising prices across markets and households prioritizing essential spending, gift-giving under N30,000 has become a strategic exercise. Nigerians are now more intentional, leaning toward practical items, locally made products, and gifts that offer durability, utility or emotional resonance.

In recent years, gifting has also become an extension of personal branding, especially for entrepreneurs and SMEs hoping to maintain client relationships, reinforce goodwill, or close the year on a warm note.

This curated list highlights gifts that fit within an accessible budget while still delivering quality, usefulness, and that understated Christmas charm. Here are the top 10 Christmas gift ideas in 2025.

10. Designer-Inspired Perfumes

Designer-inspired perfumes are one of the smartest Christmas gifts you can give without stretching your budget. Priced comfortably between N20,000 and N30,000, these fragrances mirror the scent profiles of popular luxury brands while remaining affordable and widely available. They are ideal for colleagues, friends, partners, and even corporate gifting, offering a premium feel without the premium price tag.

When picking a good scent, testing is key. Spray on a tester strip or directly on the wrist and allow it to sit for 10–15 minutes. This reveals the fragrance’s true character after the initial top notes fade. Pay attention to how it settles on the skin, its longevity, and whether it feels too sharp or well-balanced.

Combo packs are also a great option, allowing recipients to enjoy multiple scent profiles fresh, woody, spicy, or floral, making the gift both practical and exciting for the Christmas season.

Bago swears in 30 commissioners, 25 LG chairmen, others

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has sworn in 30 commissioners, 25 elected local government council chairmen and their deputies, as well as members of boards and commissions, urging them to contribute meaningfully to the delivery of his administration’s New Niger agenda.

The swearing-in ceremony was held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Government House in Minna. The Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, was represented by Justice Maimuna Abubakar of High Court 6, who administered the oath of office and allegiance to the appointees.

Governor Bago said the officials were deliberately selected based on their track records, expressing confidence that they would give their best in the service of the state.

He stressed the need for the new office holders to reflect on past experiences with a view to building a sustainable, prosperous and egalitarian Niger State.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, advised the newly sworn-in officials to demonstrate commitment in the discharge of their duties, noting that dedication to service would be critical to the success of the New Niger agenda.

Usman disclosed that a retreat had been strategically organised for the appointees to align them with the administration’s collective vision and define clear expectations.

The board members sworn in include those of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, the Secondary Education Board and the Law Reform Commission.

Some of the newly sworn-in officials expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged their commitment to the realisation of the New Niger agenda.

Meanwhile, Zamfara State has emerged as the best-performing state in the North-West zone of the Primary Health Care (PHC) Leadership Challenge.

The state was announced the winner during an award night held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre on Friday.

A statement by the Governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) launched the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge in 2022, with a commitment to building a health system that delivers quality care regardless of geography or circumstance.

According to the statement, the PHC Leadership Challenge Fund is designed to promote sustainable healthcare financing and encourage Nigeria’s 36 states to compete in improving their primary healthcare services.

“Zamfara State has won 500,000 USD as the best performing State in the North West zone in the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge.

“The award presented to Governor Dauda Lawal is a joint project of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Dangote Foundation, and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA).

“This clearly demonstrates that Governor Lawal’s declaration of a state of emergency in the Zamfara health sector is producing the intended positive outcomes.”

Choose selflessness over narrow interest, Prelate tells Nigerians – Tribune Online

Amidst the national security and economic challenges, Nigerians have been advised to embrace selfless service, faith-fuelled unity and an “all hands on deck” approach to rebuilding trust and restoring hope.

The Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Oliver Aba, gave the admonition on Friday night during his sermon at the 2025 Service of Nine Lessons and Carols, themed ‘Emmanuel: God With Us’, hosted by First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.

He reminded the gathering, which included two former leaders, Dr Yakubu Gowon and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, serving governors and certain principal officers of the National Assembly, of God’s abiding presence with the nation in times of turbulence.

He said, “Jesus did not come to be far away from us. He came to be present… God is with us in the valley, in the storms of life and in victory…“in season and out of season.”

He maintained that communal spirit and a deep sense of responsibility are needed during a trying period when people face challenges of inflation, insecurity and social divisions.

“As a people, as a nation, when you are worried, God is with you as a Prince of Peace. Today, the Prince of Peace is ready to give us peace,” he said.

The Prelate anchored the theme Emmanuel on God’s closeness to humanity, stressing that national renewal requires love, peace and service modelled after Christ’s sacrifice.

Quoting John 3:16, he framed the season as an expression of God’s selfless love and challenged Nigerians to recommit to unity.

“We must come together so as we celebrate Christ, Nigeria can be better.”

Aside from Prelate Aba, Gowon read the First Lesson from Genesis 3:8–12, reflecting on divine accountability, while Obasanjo delivered the Second Lesson from Genesis 22:15–18, underscoring obedience and covenantal blessing.

Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, who represented the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, read the Third Lesson from Isaiah 9:6–7 on the Prince of Peace.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, followed with Isaiah 11:1–4, while the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, read Luke 1:26–31.

President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem took readings from (Luke 2:4–7); the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd) (Luke 2:10–14); and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun (Matthew 2:9–12).

Mrs Tinubu, incidentally the host, concluded the lessons with John 1:1–14.

The President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Archbishop Daniel Okoh, delivered the closing prayer and benediction, praying for peace, stability and protection throughout the Yuletide.
