The woman at the center of disgraced Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore’s affair scandal has kept her job with the school’s athletic department, according to a report. 

In a stunning succession of events, Moore was first dismissed as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday due to an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a member of staff and later detained over an alleged assault in Ann Arbor.

As of Friday evening – two days on from the 39-year-old’s dismissal and subsequent arrest – the staffer alleged to be his mistress is reportedly still employed by the school. She has not yet been publicly identified. 

‘There is no change in her employment status,’ Michigan confirmed to TMZ.

Michigan President Domenico Grasso had announced in a school-wide letter on Thursday afternoon that the university had been presented with the findings of an internal investigation that led to Moore’s immediate firing. 

Grasso strongly emphasized that the disgraced coach’s conduct would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He did not, however, make a reference to any other member of staff.

‘There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan. None,’ Grasso wrote. 

‘This breach of trust by Coach Moore is painful for many in our community, first and foremost, the individuals directly involved in this situation. Yet our swift and decisive action reflects the University’s staunch commitment to a campus culture of respect, integrity and accountability.’

He said that the university’s investigation would continue, as he called for anyone with further information to contact the college.

The Wall Street Journal reported that a tipster informed Wolverines officials in mid-October that Moore had been engaged in an inappropriate relationship with someone on his staff. A person familiar with the situation told the Journal that the university opened an investigation but found no evidence of a relationship as both Moore and the woman denied the claim.

Seeking more information, the school reportedly hired an outside law firm, which the woman in question ultimately contacted on Wednesday to change her story, the Journal reported. The woman allegedly told the firm that she and Moore had been involved for two years until 2024.

The school responded to this change in testimony by firing Moore, according to the Journal, which did not identify the woman by name.

On Friday, Moore was charged with breaking and entering, home invasion and stalking at his arraignment in Washtenaw County, just days after allegedly entering his assistant’s apartment, terrorizing an unnamed woman and threatening to harm himself in the wake of his firing over the affair. 

Prosecutor Kati Rezmierski said Moore and the woman had been engaged in an ‘intimate relationship’ for a number of years. Magistrate Odetalla M Odetalla forbade the court from identifying the alleged victim. University of Michigan president Domenico Grasso penned a letter to staff and students 

Pittsfield, Michigan police and Washtenaw County prosecutors claimed the uninvited Moore entered a residence unarmed through an unlocked door and ‘engaged in a verbal argument with the victim that escalated.’ From there, he allegedly grabbed two butter knives and a pair of scissors while threatening to harm himself.

‘I’m going to kill myself,’ Moore told the alleged victim, as claimed by assistant prosecutor Kati Rezmierski on Friday. ‘I’m going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life.’

Moore allegedly fled the residence before police could arrive. He was ultimately arrested Wednesday evening at a church parking lot in a neighboring town. After his arraignment on Friday, he has bonded out of custody, court records state.

If convicted on all counts, Moore could face up to six-and-a-half years in jail and as much as $3,500 in fines, according to Washtenaw County’s Friday statement. 

He was granted a $25,00 bond and ordered to wear a GPS device while continuing to undergo mental health treatment. His next court appearance is January 22.

Defense attorney Joe Simon insisted there is ‘no evidence to suggest’ his client is a threat to the public while out on bond.

Shiver has not been officially identified as the 911 caller, the alleged victim, or the Wolverines staffer with whom Moore was alleged to have been involved. 

The 32-year-old has been a visible part of the Wolverines football program as Moore’s executive assistant. She’s also the daughter of Bears scout Jeff Shiver, who has been a constant presence with the historic NFL team since 1987.

School records show Paige’s salary spiked 70.6 percent over that time, from $58,025 in 2022 and 2023 to $99,000 in 2025. 

Interestingly, the Bears drafted one of Moore’s players in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft in tight end Colston Loveland. The elder Shiver has also appeared at Michigan games with his daughter, as seen in one 2021 Instagram post that was ‘liked’ by Moore.

Paige was even profiled on the Bears’ website in 2016 amid her long-time battle with Pompe Disease, which is a rare disorder that impacts the heart and skeletal muscles.

‘I get a lot of pain throughout my body,’ she wrote about her illness. ‘When I am in pain, I am really in pain and there is nothing that can be done but hope and pray that it will go away. This disease has been such an impact on my life and sometimes I feel as if it has taken over my life because every day is a battle.’

At the time, Paige was receiving semi-weekly treatments for the disorder and was considering a move to Baton Rouge after graduating from Michigan’s Big Ten rival, Purdue. She ultimately made her way to Michigan athletics, where she was promoted to Assistant Recruiting & Operations Coordinator in 2022 and later became Executive Assistant to the Head Coach.

The younger Shiver has switched her social media profiles to ‘private’ since the Moore scandal broke and has not responded to the Daily Mail’s emails requesting comment.

Nigeria’s rising fencing talents, Mahadi and Mahathir Idongesit, will be among the 60 competitors at this weekend’s International Fencing Federation (FIE) Junior Epee World Cup in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Originally slated for Lagos, the tournament was relocated to Uzbekistan after the Nigeria Fencing Federation opted to redirect its resources toward hosting a more suitable Commonwealth Championships in 2026.

The Idongesit brothers, who made their international debut for Nigeria at the 2025 African Championships in Lagos, are eager to test their skills against some of the world’s best. Mahadi currently holds a global ranking of 595, while Mahathir is placed at 608. Both will face stiff competition from highly-rated Egyptian stars, including world No. 4 Youssef Shamel and world No. 8 Eslam Osama.

The event will also feature fencers from Azerbaijan, Egypt, Greece, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Chinese Taipei, and host nation Uzbekistan.

Nigeria has officially submitted its bid to the African Union Sports Council to host the 2031 African Games for the first time since the country held the continent’s flagship multi-sport event in Abuja in 2003.

The Nigeria Sports Commission confirmed on Friday that the bid was presented during a series of high-level engagements with the AUSC, where officials highlighted the country’s preparedness, infrastructure and experience in staging major international competitions.

The bid presentation was delivered by renowned sports broadcaster and administrator Mainasara Ilo, who highlighted Nigeria’s technical capacity and organisational record, while reaffirming the country’s readiness to host a modern, inclusive and impactful African Games.

Nigeria’s case is strongly supported by its recent track record as host of several continental and regional tournaments. These include the CAA Africa U18 and U20 Athletics Championships, Africa Karate Championship, ITTF Africa Youth Table Tennis Championship, African Armwrestling Championship, Badminton National Open, West Africa Para Games, and the African Cadet and Junior Taekwondo Championship.

The economic impact of recent events has been significant. The CAA U18 and U20 Africa Athletics Championships alone provided a boost to more than 5,000 small and medium enterprises through increased commercial activity around host cities.

In the same vein, the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, now rated as a World Athletics Gold Label race, has grown into one of Africa’s most visible road races, drawing elite runners from across the globe while promoting tourism and projecting Nigeria’s image on the international stage.

Nigeria further reinforced its credentials in 2024 with the hosting of the Africa Military Games, an event that strengthened regional cooperation, enhanced diplomatic ties and elevated the country’s soft power across the continent.

More than 1000 Wests Tigers fans met on Saturday and marched as one, demanding the Holman Barnes Group resign from the embattled NRL club.

Led by passionate local mayor Darcy Byrne, the rally went ahead in Sydney’s inner west.

Supporters from as far as Tasmania and Perth were on hand to showcase their support, as was footy legend Steve ‘Blocker’ Roach, who is fed up with the state of the club that he represented with distinction.

Darcy predicted the downfall of the Tigers if the current regime remains in charge.

‘We simply won’t be in the NRL in a couple of years’ time if these people (Holman Barnes) are allowed to continue the way they have been,’ he said.

In the space of 11 chaotic days since December 1, the joint venture club removed its independent board directors, CEO Shane Richardson resigned, the NRL intervened to reinstate the sacked directors and coach Benji Marshall saw his contract extended until 2030.

‘I want the power to go back to the fans and get them to have a say. 

‘They are the people that pay their hard-earned week in and week out to go and watch the team play, so they should have a voice.’ 

Fellow Tigers tragic Hannah Nichols also had the support of many after holding signs that read: ‘Wests Tigers. Not Magpies. Not Balmain.’ And, ‘It’s our club. Not yours.’

The 28-man final Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was released on Thursday night.

Head coach, Eric Chelle trimmed his initial list of 54 players, leaving out some really interesting names.

In total, there are three goalkeepers, eight defenders, eight midfielders and nine forwards.

“More or less what was expected considering the options available,” Deji Faremi, a football podcaster with White House Pod, tells DAILY POST.

“I don’t think there were many curveballs.

“But I don’t also think selection, or personnel has been much to worry about in the last 1-2 years — it’s been putting these pieces together in a way that fits.

“So hopefully we can get that right.”

Chelle will also be travelling to Morocco with some surprise inclusions.

Of course, we were not expecting captain William Troost-Ekong to be on the plane, having announced his retirement from international football last week.

But Maduka Okoye (goalkeeper), Victor Boniface (forward), Tolu Arokodare (striker) and Ola Aina (defender) will also not be travelling for the AFCON.

Okoye is the one most fans are talking about. With first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali’s injury situation touch-and-go, the in-form Udinese man was expected to be picked.

Instead, Chelle has opted to recall Francis Uzoho, who last featured for the team in March 2024 and included Amas Obasogie of Singida Black Stars.

There are also debut call-ups for Croatia-based striker and ex-Flying Eagles forward Lawal Salim Fago; Inter Milan youngster, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro; Israel-based Usman Muhammed and former Flying Eagles star, Tochukwu Nnadi.

“I was a bit surprised at Salim Fago.

“I haven’t seen him yet, and my guess is he’s in because of his versatility, but considering his lack of experience with the senior team, I’d be surprised if he gets a proper shot, and that almost defeats any need for him in the squad,” Faremi said.

Faremi was, however, surprised by Chelle’s decision not to take Arokodare to the tournament.

The Wolves striker was part of Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifying fixtures this year and appeared to be a solid alternative to Victor Osimhen.

“Unlike Fago, Arokodare has been an important role player in the last year,” Faremi said.

“Admittedly he’s not lighting it up for his club, but the national team is at a different stage. I’d have called him regardless.”

One of the talking points on social media has been that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has influenced the inclusion of certain players.

There are even speculations that Chelle is so upset that he will leave the role after the AFCON.

“I wouldn’t be surprised. But it’s not always a bad thing,” Faremi said.

“Especially in our case, it’s not surprising that the football federation might have some kind of influence in the team ahead of a competition.

“I think the big question should be how much influence.

“Ultimately, you want the coach to be comfortable enough that he trusts his ‘tools’ because in the end, he’s responsible for the results.”

Should the current state of insecurity in some parts of the country persist and become a flood, Nigeria can either ‘sink’ or ‘swim’, depending on how she navigates through the turbulence.

The country has been under the siege of migrating strangers crossing Nigeria’s porous borders, with luggage of guns and ammunition fanning the embers of crisis across Nigeria.

The Growing Crisis and Youth Vulnerability

I don’t know what the figure of out-of-school children in Nigeria is, currently, but in 2002, it was estimated at between 13 and 18 million. My country had the highest number and concentration of illiterates in the world. It was a rather shameful and alarming statistic.

So, when the United Nations created a special unit within it in 2002 as a part of its Millennium Development Goals agenda, it must have had Nigeria in mind, a country sitting by a time-bomb waiting to be detonated by any crisis!

The UN

At that time, the situation in the most affected parts of Nigeria made Borno State the perfect environment for the recruitment of idle youths with the energy to drive satanic agenda.

The Rise of Boko Haram and the Power of Soft Tools

That’s how and why ‘Boko Haram’ found easy and willing ‘soldiers of fortune’ in the North East of Nigeria to fight their internecine wars.

The UN had its hands full with crisis and challenges. The organisation also recognized the power of soft power tools to deal with many of these challenges that affected the youths, by empowering them to fight back with their passion. Sport led the sector in providing the tools. The others in the same sector included music, dance, film, IT, the arts, tourism, culture, cuisine, fashion and the glitterati.

That’s what the UN saw and created a special unit that had the mandate to deploy sport as a weapon in its 8-points agenda for the eradication of illiteracy, unemployment, hunger, poverty, inequality, and disease (HIV/AIDS) by 2015!

Sport as a Global Tool for Youth Empowerment

It was a global recognition of the power and potency of Sport to tackle some of the gravest challenges in the world by engaging the youths and making them more productive. The strategy was simple – take them away from the opium of societal vices and easy virtues, and re-direct their attention to activities that they are passionate about that offers them new, exciting and profitable opportunities in an emerging new world. The New World Order is upon us now, even if the goals set 25 years ago have not been achieved here in Nigeria, at the least.

Instead, there is an escalation. The current insecurity situation in Nigeria threatens the peace and unity of the most populous Black nation on the face of the earth! And according to the UN’s prescription of 2002, a significant part of the solution is idling away in neglect and ignorance.

Sport and the UN’s Youth Mobilisation Efforts

I was at the conference at the University of Rhode Island, USA, when the UN addressed the youths (students under 17 years of age) from 157 countries and challenged them to take up the mantle of leadership, spread the message of Sport and become the tools to be deployed to drive the global agenda.

Even FIFA got involved. I was a part of the ‘1-Goal, Education for All’ campaign on the eve of the 2010 World Cup that was launched to further promote the UN agenda to all corners of the earth using the football event. Most world leaders became ambassadors and were involved in the propagation.

SOCA: A Practical Experiment in Sport-driven Education

In my own little way, I took up the assignment as an ambassador in 2002 beyond mere rhetorics. I came back to Nigeria and planted the seed of a sports school to drive the UN’s MDG agenda. The plan is that the unique sports school with a special mandate would eventually become a model to be adopted by small and large communities around Nigeria.

That is the genesis of SOCA, the ‘Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy’, (SOCA), a boys and girls secondary school based in Wasimi, Ogun State. Here, the passion of the students, Sport (and film, music, photography, dance, drama, fashion, IT, and so on), is offered to them in over-abundance. And within that environment is a strict culture and structure of a co-curricula menu that includes an academic program designed and delivered in such a way that makes learning easier for the students.

Sport as a Model for National Integration

The long term plan was that a successful school would become an adoptable model to be replicated in other places, for example, one in each of the 6 geo-political zones, or one in each State, or even one in each Local Government Area.

Specialised sports- and skills-acquisition schools (like military schools of a similar orientation) will make children to set aside all differences (religious, tribal, ethnic, status, etc) as a primary panacea for success, be single-minded, and work as a team to achieve success. There is no other way to succeed in sport. The youths must stay away from the ‘devil’s workshop’. They can only thrive on the foundations of peace, unity, hard work, discipline and enduring friendship amongst themselves.

A Tested Strategy with Proven Outcomes

SOCA set out to test the efficacy of this simple theorem promoted by the UN to achieve big objectives that can change the world. My country needed to embrace it, test it and practice it if found to be efficacious.

I have told this story several times in the past. I am repeating it here again.

Many years ago, I sold the idea of an experiment to the Borno State government. We agreed and randomly selected 5 out-of-school boys from that Boko Haram-infested part of Nigeria. The boys were identified and selected for their passion for sport, and willingness to pursue success in the sport along side academics-made-easy. They were to spend the last 3 years of their secondary school in SOCA.

Transforming Lives Through Sport and Education

Lured by the sports dream, the boys left their State for the first time at about ages 13/14, buried their fears and prejudices, arrived to the heart of Yoruba land, embraced the challenges and conditions, concentrated on their sport whilst being served academics ‘a la carte’.

After the specially designed programs, 3 of the 5 boys passed the West African School Certificate Examination, went on to Universities and have graduated.

Meanwhile, all 5 are still in sports, and the trajectory of their lives has changed for good, forever.

The Missed Opportunity and Nigeria’s Persistent Insecurity

That experiment in SOCA, well documented for posterity, remains the clearest evidence and the simplest demonstration of the power of sport as a tool that can help to eradicate illiteracy by enrolling the children into school, retaining them in school, empowering them to pursue education delivered in simpler and easier ways, and/or acquiring some entrepreneurial skills in other sectors. The reward is that all 5 of them did not end up in the forests of Sambisa kidnapping, killing or abducting people, or fighting a religious war!

It was an ingenious plan and a program that worked. The evidence is in Wasimi, near Abeokuta in Ogun State. And Imole Ogbo, Osun State. Anyone can go there and see for themselves the small projects with big dreams.

The tragedy is that the result of the experiment was belittled, buried in the sand of neglect, or ignorance or even a lack of understanding of the place of soft-power tools in a new World Order.

Sport and Soft Power as National Defence Tools

Soft power is a perfect response to the challenges in some parts of Nigeria that are still riddled with challenges of insecurity.

American President, Donald Trump, waded in with some harsh threats that have provoked several interesting developments.

A new Sheriff has also been appointed to over see Nigeria’s further response.

A General With a Sporting Pedigree

I am particularly excited about the choice of this deserving and tested military General whose credentials tick all the boxes of qualifications, competency, integrity, political correctness, vision, geography, etc, to head the Ministry of Defense at this time.

It is a perfect fit!

Particularly exciting is that General Christopher Musa comes with a very rich pedigree in sports.

Sport and the Future of Nigeria’s Security Strategy

It is, therefore, time to revisit the UN’s SDGs agenda and see how Sport and other soft power tools can contribute their quota, through strategic deployment and collaboration with other agencies of government, to reduce and subsequently remove, this existential threat of insecurity hanging over Nigeria’s neck like the fabled Albatross in Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s ‘Rime of the Ancient Mariner’.

In a modern twist, she strayed from the traditional bridal bouquet and instead held a single rose covered in crystals.

The couple sealed their nuptials with a kiss in front of a crowd of guests before making their way back down the aisle as newlyweds.

The al-fresco wedding was held at San Ysidro ranch in Montecito — a celebrity favorite that has previously seen Chris Pratt, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Simpson marry on its grounds.

For Hailee and Josh, the gardens of the $3,000-a-night hotel were decked out with white roses and elaborately trimmed bushes. 

Along with her father, the star’s mother Cheri and brother Griffin were also present, as were the athlete’s parents Joel and LaVonne, and his siblings Jason, Nicala and Makenna.

In their careers, both Allen and Steinfeld had plenty to celebrate in 2025.

Lindsey Vonn proved she’d never lost it as the queen of downhill skiing continued her comeback on the slopes of St. Moritz on Friday. 

At the age of 41, the Team USA sensation made history as she claimed victory at the 2025-2026 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. 

The stunningly fast win marked her first victory in nearly eight years – and the first in her comeback with titanium implants in her right knee after a five-year retirement.

The triumph on the Swiss track also saw the Olympic skier become the oldest winner of a World Cup race since the circuit started in 1967.

The United States ski great seized the lead by an astonishing 1.16 seconds ahead of Mirjam Puchner of Austria. Even wilder was that Vonn trailed by 0.61 after the first two time checks at the Swiss resort.

Vonn’s lead was later cut to 0.98 – still a massive margin in downhill – when unheralded Magdalena Egger took second place from teammate Puchner.

Her run Friday looked routine when she dropped tenths of seconds to Puchner’s time on the top half of the sunbathed Corviglia course, where the finish is at altitude above 2,000 meters (6,500 feet).

Vonn then was faster than anyone through the next speed checks, touching 119 kph (74 mph), and posted the fastest time splits for the bottom half.

She skied through the finish area and bumped against the inflated safety barrier, lay down in the snow and raised her arms on seeing her time.

Vonn got up, punched the air with her right fist and shrieked with joy before putting her hands to her left cheek in the style of Steph Curry’s ‘Night, night’ gesture .

‘It was an amazing day, I couldn´t be happier, pretty emotional,’ Vonn told Swiss broadcaster RTS. ‘I felt good this summer but I wasn´t sure how fast I was. I guess I know now how fast I am.’

Soon after, Vonn shed tears on the podium in the finish area when The Star-Spangled Banner played.

It was a perfect start to her Olympic season to get a first victory since a downhill in March 2018 at Are, Sweden.

The skiing legend has not taken the slopes in Olympic competition since the 2018 Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang, South Korea. 

But, as proven on Friday, Vonn is in prime condition as she’ll hope to compete in February’s games held at Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy.

‘Physically, I’m in possibly the best shape I’ve ever been in,’ Vonn said earlier this week. 

‘And my body doesn’t hurt, so that’s the best part of all.’

Over the summer, Vonn committed to re-building her strength in the offseason she felt she lacked in her 2024-25 return season.

‘My goal was to get a lot stronger this summer,’ she said. ‘I was thinner than I would have liked last season. I was still quite a bit lighter than I was when I was racing in my prime.’

However, after ‘a lot of hard work’, Vonn says she was ‘able to gain about 12 pounds’ over her offseason.

‘I was probably the most disciplined I’ve ever been with my diet and just how I approached the entire summer,’ said the three-time Olympic medalist.

‘I put everything I had into being as physically prepared as possible.’

The 2010 Olympic champion is targeting another gold medal at the Milan Cortina Winter Games in February. Women’s Alpine skiing is at the storied Cortina d’Ampezzo course in the Dolomites, which Vonn has mastered in her career with 12 World Cup race wins.

Vonn has shredded age records since her return to World Cup racing at St. Moritz one year ago.

She’s now the oldest winner of a men’s or women’s race, taking the mark set by 37-year-old Didier Cuche, also in Switzerland, in 2012 when he triumphed in a super-G at Crans-Montana. Until Friday, the women’s record was 34 years, 7 months set by Federica Brignone in March after victory in a super-G at Kvitfjell, Norway.

No woman aged at least 35 ever was on a World Cup race podium until March when Vonn placed second in a super-G at Sun Valley.

No women aged at least 36 ever had a points-scoring result in downhill until Vonn last season. No women aged at least 37 ever had a points-scoring result in any World Cup event until Vonn, according to the ski-db.com archive.

Friday´s race was Vonn´s 125th start in World Cup downhill in her storied career, 24 years after the first at Lake Louise, Canada.

She has now won a record-extending 44 of them, including at St. Moritz in 2012, and has 83 race victories across all World Cup disciplines.
