NDLEA Delta seizes N3bn drugs, secures 226 convictions in one year

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Delta State Command, has announced drug seizures valued at more than N3 billion within the last one year.

The State Commander, NDLEA, Halilu Hamidu, disclosed the figures at a press briefing on Friday while reviewing the command’s 2025 activities, between January and December this year.
He noted that despite logistics constraints, resistance from organised criminal networks, and difficult terrain across drug-prone communities, operatives delivered “sustained, aggressive and intelligence-driven” operations.

According to the commander, a total of 2,265 kg of dry hard drugs were intercepted, including Cannabis Sativa: 1,750 kg, Cannabis Sativa seeds: 310.6 kg, Cocaine: 224.65 kg, Heroin: 32.3 kg, Methamphetamine: 800.8 kg, Tramadol: 311.9 kg, Swinol/Rohypnol: 9.04 kg, Diazepam: 20.01 kg, Exol: 166 kg, Molly: 2.1 kg, Hypnox: 6.1 kg and Cocodamol: 13 kg.
Additionally, 714.4 litres of liquid narcotics were seized, including codeine (657.5 litres), a cannabis-gin mixture, pentazocine and injectable diazepam.

He also disclosed that from January to December 12, 2025, the command secured 226 convictions at the Federal High Courts in Asaba and Warri, while 189 cases remain pending. NDLEA described the year’s legal engagements as “intense”, with prosecutors handling a record volume of cartel-linked cases.
Hamidun hinted that the command destroyed 10.2 hectares of cannabis farms at Emu-Obiogo and 50 hectares at Innam-Abbi, all in the Ndokwa West council of the state.

Painting a worrying picture of the demand side of narcotics use, the commander said that the Drug Demand Reduction Unit counselled 704 drug-dependent persons—480 men and 224 women—in less than a year, while 14 persons were admitted for full rehabilitation.
Commander Hamidun maintained that the agency will “sustain its offensive,” but called for deeper collaboration among communities, local governments, and security agencies to break the cycle of drug abuse and trafficking in the state.

Bago swears in 30 commissioners, 25 LG chairmen, others

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has sworn in 30 commissioners, 25 elected local government council chairmen and their deputies, as well as members of boards and commissions, urging them to contribute meaningfully to the delivery of his administration’s New Niger agenda.

The swearing-in ceremony was held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Government House in Minna. The Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, was represented by Justice Maimuna Abubakar of High Court 6, who administered the oath of office and allegiance to the appointees.

Governor Bago said the officials were deliberately selected based on their track records, expressing confidence that they would give their best in the service of the state.

He stressed the need for the new office holders to reflect on past experiences with a view to building a sustainable, prosperous and egalitarian Niger State.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, advised the newly sworn-in officials to demonstrate commitment in the discharge of their duties, noting that dedication to service would be critical to the success of the New Niger agenda.

Usman disclosed that a retreat had been strategically organised for the appointees to align them with the administration’s collective vision and define clear expectations.

The board members sworn in include those of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, the Secondary Education Board and the Law Reform Commission.

Some of the newly sworn-in officials expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged their commitment to the realisation of the New Niger agenda.

Meanwhile, Zamfara State has emerged as the best-performing state in the North-West zone of the Primary Health Care (PHC) Leadership Challenge.

The state was announced the winner during an award night held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre on Friday.

A statement by the Governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) launched the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge in 2022, with a commitment to building a health system that delivers quality care regardless of geography or circumstance.

According to the statement, the PHC Leadership Challenge Fund is designed to promote sustainable healthcare financing and encourage Nigeria’s 36 states to compete in improving their primary healthcare services.

“Zamfara State has won 500,000 USD as the best performing State in the North West zone in the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge.

“The award presented to Governor Dauda Lawal is a joint project of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Dangote Foundation, and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA).

“This clearly demonstrates that Governor Lawal’s declaration of a state of emergency in the Zamfara health sector is producing the intended positive outcomes.”

Choose selflessness over narrow interest, Prelate tells Nigerians – Tribune Online

Amidst the national security and economic challenges, Nigerians have been advised to embrace selfless service, faith-fuelled unity and an “all hands on deck” approach to rebuilding trust and restoring hope.

The Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Oliver Aba, gave the admonition on Friday night during his sermon at the 2025 Service of Nine Lessons and Carols, themed ‘Emmanuel: God With Us’, hosted by First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.

He reminded the gathering, which included two former leaders, Dr Yakubu Gowon and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, serving governors and certain principal officers of the National Assembly, of God’s abiding presence with the nation in times of turbulence.

He said, “Jesus did not come to be far away from us. He came to be present… God is with us in the valley, in the storms of life and in victory…“in season and out of season.”

He maintained that communal spirit and a deep sense of responsibility are needed during a trying period when people face challenges of inflation, insecurity and social divisions.

“As a people, as a nation, when you are worried, God is with you as a Prince of Peace. Today, the Prince of Peace is ready to give us peace,” he said.

The Prelate anchored the theme Emmanuel on God’s closeness to humanity, stressing that national renewal requires love, peace and service modelled after Christ’s sacrifice.

Quoting John 3:16, he framed the season as an expression of God’s selfless love and challenged Nigerians to recommit to unity.

“We must come together so as we celebrate Christ, Nigeria can be better.”

Aside from Prelate Aba, Gowon read the First Lesson from Genesis 3:8–12, reflecting on divine accountability, while Obasanjo delivered the Second Lesson from Genesis 22:15–18, underscoring obedience and covenantal blessing.

Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, who represented the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, read the Third Lesson from Isaiah 9:6–7 on the Prince of Peace.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, followed with Isaiah 11:1–4, while the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, read Luke 1:26–31.

President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem took readings from (Luke 2:4–7); the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd) (Luke 2:10–14); and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun (Matthew 2:9–12).

Mrs Tinubu, incidentally the host, concluded the lessons with John 1:1–14.

The President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Archbishop Daniel Okoh, delivered the closing prayer and benediction, praying for peace, stability and protection throughout the Yuletide.

“N9.7m gone” – Lady in severe pains as she pays 10,000 Pounds to get job in UK, arrives London, finds out it is fake

A Nigerian businessman based in the UK, Folowosele Adeboye, has shared a striking client story to explain why many high-earners are still choosing to relocate, a trend commonly known as ‘japa’.

The discussion began with Adeboye asking if a monthly salary of ₦1.5 million in Nigeria would be enough to dissuade someone from moving abroad.

He then revealed his client’s situation: despite earning that high income, the client relocated for the sake of his family. The primary motivations for the move were concerns over the future of their children, security, and the overall quality of life abroad.

As proof of the rapid change, Adeboye noted that after only four months in the UK, the client’s 6-year-old son’s accent had already changed to a British one.

He stressed that such a fast transformation is nearly unheard of in Nigeria.

In other news… Nigerian comedian Carter Efe has set a new record for an African streamer on Twitch, quickly reaching 10,000 subscribers. During one emotional live session, his channel pulled 7,000 viewers in under a minute.

Carter Efe cried on stream, reflecting on his journey. He noted that while his skits were often overlooked by Nigerians, his streaming efforts are now getting huge support.

The massive growth was largely driven by an invite from music superstar Davido for a joint stream. Davido joked he would need a “face shield” for their upcoming collaboration.

However, the session was not entirely smooth. Carter Efe voiced frustration with Wizkid for not showing similar support. A video call with footballer Victor Boniface also became tense over access complaints.

Despite the friction, fans are celebrating Carter Efe’s rapid success on the streaming platform.
