President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that his predecessor, late Muhammadu Buhari taught Nigerians, particularly the politicians, that public office is a sacred trust and not a personal windfall.
This is just as he also paid glowing tribute to the life and legacy of his late predecessor.
Tinubu, who spoke at the official launch of the 606-page biography, “From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari,” held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, described Buhari as a leader whose reputation for integrity, discipline and modest living endured long after leaving office
He stressed that the true measure of Buhari’s leadership was not the offices he occupied or the privileges that came with power, but “what persists when the sirens fall silent,” noting that the late former President left behind a legacy defined by honesty, restraint and a firm belief that leadership is anchored in service.
Tinubu, who described himself as Buhari’s brother, friend and political partner, recalled the political journey they shared together and the coalition-building efforts that culminated in the historic 2015 election victory which unseated an incumbent government and reshaped Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to him, the alliance forged during that period had since evolved into the fastest-growing political party in Africa.
His words: “I stand here not just as President, but as a brother, friend, and political partner who shared a journey with President Buhari through challenging times. Together, we built a broad coalition, campaigned across the country, and proved that Nigeria could chart a new course. Our movement united diverse interests and achieved a historic victory in 2015 by unseating an incumbent president, thus reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
The coalition we built in 2014 is now the fastest-growing political party in Africa today. Its growth continues.”
The President said the biography serves as an honest account of Buhari’s life and leadership, outlining both achievements and shortcomings, and urged future leaders to draw lessons from history rather than rely on empty slogans.
He identified humility, security, vision and social justice as the enduring pillars of Buhari’s legacy, noting that the late leader preferred simplicity over extravagance, believed in self-discipline as the foundation of governance, and prioritised national security as the bedrock of prosperity.
Tinubu also highlighted Buhari’s long-term vision for infrastructure development, including roads, railways, bridges and airports, as well as his commitment to targeted social investments aimed at protecting the poor and vulnerable.
He said Buhari’s consistent love for Nigeria and faithfulness to his oath of office earned him respect, even among critics, adding that their political experience together reinforced the importance of cooperation across differences in the task of nation-building.
Tinubu enumerated lasting legacies of his predecessor in areas of security, building social infrastructures and entrenching social justice and restated his commitment to building on it.
“This book reinforces the public’s memory. It outlines achievements and flaws, as all honest histories should. It should motivate future leaders to learn lessons rather than repeat slogans.
“In that spirit, let us reflect on the enduring pillars of President Buhari’s legacy:
“First, humility. President Buhari preferred simplicity over ornamentation. He believed that a leader must first discipline himself before he can discipline a system. He lived modestly, and he carried the dignity of that modesty into power.
“Second, security. President Buhari recognised that security is the foundation of citizenship and prosperity. He invested in platforms and personnel, improved capacities across our armed services, and pushed for reforms that endured beyond the headlines. He understood that safety requires protecting both the state and its citizens.
“Third, vision. He understood the importance of long-term thinking — constructing bridges, restoring railways, building roads, modernising our airports, and renewing critical infrastructure —while prioritising maintenance and sustainability.
“Fourth, social justice. He believed in targeted social investments to ensure that the state did not ignore the poor and vulnerable.
“These are the pillars of his legacy. But a legacy is given greater meaning when those who follow choose to continue what has been started. That is my duty. “
“President Buhari loved this country consistently, morning after morning, decision after decision, staying true to the oath he took. That is why even those who disagreed with him often acknowledged his honesty.
“Our political journey together taught me that cooperation across differences is not weakness; it is wisdom. Nation-building demands that we compete passionately and govern responsibly. President Buhari understood that the contest ends when the oath begins. In his memory, let us keep our politics honourable and our governance focused on results.”
Tinubu vowed that his administration would honour and build upon Buhari’s legacy, stressing that remembrance must go beyond rhetoric to the delivery of tangible results with discipline, compassion and resolve.
“To my dear brother, President Muhammadu Buhari: though you are no longer with us, your impact endures. We will honour and build upon your legacy, not just by invoking your name, but by delivering results with discipline, compassion, and resolve”.
The President commended the author of the book for enriching Nigeria’s collective memory and expressed hope that the biography would inspire young Nigerians as they reflect on leadership and public service.
Earlier in his welcome address, Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, portrayed the late former President as an incorruptible strategist whose leadership was defined by integrity and a deep understanding of national security.
Radda said Buhari’s foresight in security matters and his personal discipline set him apart as a leader committed to the protection of the state and the welfare of its citizens.
He also lauded the collaboration and camaraderie that existed between the later President and his successor, President Tinubu, which culminated in the victory that installed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015, adding that there could not have been a better successor than Tinubu.
Earlier, author of the biography, Dr. Charles Omole, described the book as the most comprehensive account of the life and legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, explaining that the 600-page work addresses complex questions surrounding his journey, character and leadership.
According to Omole, the book focuses not just on Buhari the public figure, but on the man himself—his guiding principles, values and personal convictions.
He noted that one of Buhari’s enduring legacies is his family, particularly his children, whom he said were raised with forthrightness, balance and strong emotional intelligence.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Buhari’s daughter, Hadiza Nana Buhari, said the biography transcends a mere historical record, capturing instead the rhythm of a life lived with restraint, steadiness and an abiding belief that public office is a sacred trust.
She noted that while the story is not presented as flawless, “as no human story ever is”, it challenges the next generation to build institutions strong enough to translate good intentions into lasting outcomes.
Nana Buhari urged young Nigerians to draw lessons from her father’s life by embracing integrity, moderation and patience in their pursuit of success and service to the nation.
The event was graced by dignitaries from all walks of life including President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow; members of the Buhari family, led by former First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari; traditional rulers, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III; the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III and others.
Also at the event were the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. …handles 33.52m tonnes of cargoes

Nigerian Ports Authority ( NPA) has recorded 8.4 per cent in ship traffic at the port in the third quarter of 2025.

It noted that the number of vessel calls increased to 1,074 ships from 991 vessels recorded in Q3 2024.

According to the authority, the total Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT) jumped by 18 per cent to 42.64 million, compared with 36.13 million recorded a year earlier, indicating that Nigerian ports are increasingly handling larger vessels.

A breakdown of the number of ship calls along the port locations revealed that Tin Can Port topped the chart at 22.7 per cent, followed by Apapa Port at 22.2 per cent.

Onne and Lekki Ports followed with 18.9 per cent and 18.4 per cent respectively, while Calabar Port contributed the least at 2.1 per cent.

However, the analysis of ship calls by size of ship revealed that Lekki Port received the largest size ships with an average Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT) of 57,244, followed by Onne Port with an average of 51,276 GRT.

Apapa and Tin Can Island Port received ships of average GRT of 35,556 and 34,400, while the average size of boats calling at Delta Ports was 18,677 tonnes.

Similarly, a breakdown of cargo throughput by port showed that Lekki Port emerged as the dominant growth driver, accounting for 46.8 per cent of total cargo handled in Q3 2025.

Onne Port contributed 17 per cent, followed by Apapa Port with 15.1 per cent and Tin Can Island Port with 10 per cent, while Calabar Port recorded the lowest share.

A further analysis along the cargo type revealed that Liquid Bulk accounted for the highest share at 53.8 per cent, followed by Containerised Cargo, which contributed 26.6 per cent, while Dry Bulk and Other General Cargo contributed 11.3 per cent and 8.2 per cent respectively.

The NPA Managing Director, Abubakar Dantsoho, attributed the strong performance to the Federal Government’s export-focused economic reforms and improved investor confidence, noting that the results reflect growing efficiency across all pilotage districts.

He added that ongoing port modernisation, the deployment of export processing terminals and the expansion of digital systems such as the electronic truck call-up platform have helped reduce bottlenecks, improve turnaround time and position Nigeria’s ports to play a more strategic role in regional trade.

Also, NPA posted one of its strongest quarterly performances in recent years, recording a dramatic 1,085 per cent surge in export-laden containers as total cargo throughput rose to 33.52 million metric tonnes in the third quarter (Q3) of 2025.

Operational data released by the authority showed that cargo handled during the period increased by 16.2 per cent, up from 28.84 million metric tonnes recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2024, reflecting rising trade activity across Nigeria’s ports.

Container operations were a significant contributor to the improved performance. Total container traffic climbed by 18.9 per cent to 546,931 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in Q3 2025, compared with 460,038 TEUs in Q3 2024.

Within this, import-laden containers rose by 33.1 per cent to 268,713 TEUs, from 201,839 TEUs a year earlier, while export-laden containers surged to 69,039 TEUs, from just 5,812 TEUs in the same period of 2024.

The sharp rise in export containers also led to a 21.5 per cent reduction in empty container traffic, signalling improved balance between imports and exports and stronger non-oil export activity.

Minister of Works David Umahi says there will no longer be a need for the people of the South-East to agitate for a Biafran nation, as President Bola Tinubu’s inclusive governance has addressed the region’s long-standing grievances.

The minister made the remarks in a one-minute, 30-second video of an inspection tour of ongoing federal infrastructure projects in the region.

Mr Umahi said the agitation for Biafra, largely driven by feelings of neglect, exclusion, and underrepresentation, has significantly reduced under Mr Tinubu’s administration due to increased federal presence and investments in the South-East.

“There will be no need for Biafra again,” Mr Umahi said. “In the past administration, our people felt very much marginalised, and that was the reason some people were agitating for Biafra. But I can say today that we are well integrated into the mainstream of the nation, Nigeria.”

According to Mr Umahi, the people of the South-East are now “comfortable and happy” with Mr Tinubu.

“So, we are very grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. There will be no need for Biafra again. We are comfortable. We are very happy with the integration,” he said.

Mr Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, highlighted several ongoing and completed federal projects in the South-East, noting that many of them had stalled for more than a decade before the Tinubu administration intervened.

He said the federal government is prioritising durable infrastructure, particularly concrete roads designed to last between 50 and 100 years.

“For more than 15 years, it has been one government coming to do something small and go. But the section being handled by MTN under RCC will be completed fully by February, and it is costing N202 billion,” he said.

According to him, another 72-kilometre road section being handled by SKCC at the cost of N150 billion has already received 30 per cent payment.

“The job of building roads by Mr President all over the country is that these roads will stay for 50 to 100 years,” he said, comparing the projects to the ongoing coastal highway.

Mr Umahi listed key projects in the region, including the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway, and Section 2B of the Second Niger Bridge, valued at N176 billion.

“You go to Enugu now, and you see the Artisan Bridge finished, dusted, and delivered. You go to Depot Junction in Eke-Obinagu, where the biggest flyover in the South-East is ongoing.

“These are the reasons why I said we do not have any reason again to agitate for Biafra. He that has started this great and beautiful thing, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will continue it,” he said.

The minister added that political relevance for the South-East must be pursued through strategy rather than rhetoric.

“We cannot retake our rightful position by sentiment and venomous statements. It is by realities and being strategic,” he stated.

Mr Umahi described his support for Mr Tinubu and the recent defection of the Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as calculated political decisions.

“I am supporting President Bola Tinubu; it is being strategic. The governor of Enugu State coming over to the APC is being strategic,” he added.

The Katsina State Hisbah Board has destroyed confiscated alcoholic drinks in Bakori town, within the Funtua local government area of the state.

The exercise was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Information officer of the Hisbah Board in Abdul Baki Mustapha.

According to the statement, DC Bashir Lawal Balarabe alongside other Hisbah commanders from the Funtua zone, supervised the destruction of the seized alcohol.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his administration will continue to honour former President, Muhammadu Buhari by sustaining his legacies of leadership, discipline and integrity.

The President made this pledge on Monday in Abuja at the State House Conference Centre during the unveiling and public presentation of the book From Soldier to Statesman : The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, written by Dr Charles Omole.

A suspected leader of the Vikings Confraternity in Edo State has reportedly been killed in a violent power tussle.

Naija News learnt that the cultist was shot dead during a clash allegedly orchestrated by rival factional members on Monday, December 15, 2025, along the Benin–Agbor Road.

A source who spoke to Daily Post described the incident as a bloody overthrow, stressing that the group had been plunged into crisis following its last national election, during which a candidate was allegedly imposed.

‎“The attackers may have intended to remove the leader without bloodshed, but once gunshots are fired, anything can happen,” he said.

At the time of filing this report, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said she had not yet been briefed on the incident.

In other news, the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has criticised the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo over what it described as a continued campaign against the immediate past governor, Godwin Obaseki, and major investments in Edo South.

Naija News reports that the party accused the current government of focusing its energy on discrediting projects carried out under the Obaseki administration, rather than presenting clear development plans.

It said the latest target of this approach is the Radisson Hotel project in Benin City.

In a statement signed by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, the party said comments attributed to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, were misleading and intended to confuse the public.

According to the PDP, since assuming office, the Okpebholo administration has consistently moved against legacy projects that were designed to boost the state’s economy.

The party listed several projects it said had come under attack, including the Museum of West African Art, the 95-megawatt Ossiomo Power Project, Saro Farms and its ethanol investment in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, the Edo Printing Press at the Nigerian Observer premises, and Presco Plc.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has expressed delight as he welcomed his main challenger in the November 16, 2024, governorship election, Agboola Ajayi to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aiyedatiwa, who began his statewide tour, said on Monday that politicians do not return after elections. He said he embarked on the tour to appreciate the citizens for their support for his administration.

The tour started with the four Akoko Local Government Areas of Akoko North-West, Akoko North-East, Akoko South-East, and Akoko South-West, where the Governor thanked residents for their support this year and galvanised backing for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

The governor commenced the tour in Oke-Agbe, headquarters of Akoko North-West Local Government Area, where traditional rulers, community leaders, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and residents received him in large numbers.

At the Secretariat of Akoko North-West Local Government, the governor commissioned five utility vehicles for traditional rulers, as well as a bus for the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

Addressing the gathering, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to God for preserving lives and stressed that the visit was not for a political campaign but to appreciate the people for their loyalty and support.

He said he promised party leaders during the electioneering campaign that his visits would not be occasional, that he would visit from time to time, inspect projects, and ensure the fulfillment of promises.

He said that the visit was also to convey the party’s decision at both national and state levels that its candidate for 2027 is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Governor commended the people for standing with the APC, noting that the party recorded victories in all local government areas of the state and now has full control of the State House of Assembly.

Aiyedatiwa attributed the APC’s growing strength and infrastructural development across the country to the reforms of President Tinubu, saying the impact of these reforms had attracted governors from other political parties to the APC.

He also hinted that his opponent from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2024 gubernatorial election, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, had met with him and decided to join the APC at a date to be announced later.

Calling for unity within the party, Governor Aiyedatiwa urged APC members and various party groups to work together and avoid internal crises, stressing that tolerance and cooperation were necessary to achieve the party’s objectives ahead of 2027.

At Akoko North-East Local Government Area, the Governor again thanked residents for their prayers and continued support.

He said the reforms of President Tinubu had opened up opportunities for economic growth in Ondo State, citing the ongoing dualisation of the Ikare–Akungba road as evidence of development in the Akoko axis.

While noting that political interests were natural, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured party members that all disagreements would be resolved through dialogue.

According to him “There will be no fight at the party. We will resolve all issues through dialogue, and everyone will be satisfied.”

The Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, who also spoke in Oka Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government, appreciated residents and party members for turning out in large numbers to welcome the governor’s train.

The thank-you tour also took the governor to Isua in Akoko South-East Local Government Area, where he paid homage to residents and expressed appreciation to party leaders who accompanied him.

Palliatives were distributed to each of the local government areas visited as part of the governor’s gesture of appreciation to party members.

He stressed that Mr Buhari consistently demonstrated love for Nigeria and was widely respected for his personal honesty, even by critics.

“Cooperation across differences is not weakness; it is wisdom,” the president said.

Mr Tinubu urged Nigerians to keep politics honourable and governance focused on results.

He prayed for Allah’s mercy for the late former president and comfort for his family.

The Author of the Book, Charles Omole, described the book as the most comprehensive account of the life and legacy of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said that the 600-page book addressed several complex questions about his journey and leadership.

Former service chiefs and senior officials who served under Mr Buhari paid tributes at the event.

Hadiza Buhari, daughter of the former president, who spoke on behalf of the family thanked Mr Tinubu and Nigerians for their support and prayers.

She said that although the life of the late president was not perfect, his legacy should challenge the next generation to build systems strong enough to translate good intentions into lasting outcomes.

The event was attended by Gambian President Adama Barrow, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Aisha Buhari, ministers and state governors, including Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State, who described Mr Buhari as an incorruptible leader.
